Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Why no discussion here of the sudden announcement of an unplanned Wednesday Holiday EDMC school closure?

I have never seen such a thing in the many years working here. A change in a major school date on the calendar affecting faculty and students announced late in the previous quarter was very unusual thing. Last Thursday, it was announced that the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is also a holiday and school will be closed. Faculty are required to carefully schedule the entire quarter. Taking this week's class meeting time out of the schedule is very disrespectful to faculty teaching on Wednesday. We all like a day off, but this really throws a wrench in the system when it gets announced AFTER THE AFFECTED CLASSES HAVE MET the previous week. Faculty are human garbage. Enjoy your extra day.

Anyway- I'm interested in reading speculation on the reason behind this. It seems so unstable and capricious. The kids get worried when drunk daddy brings home a pony.

It's quiet. Too quiet.

You have no idea what you're getting yourself into.

We're gonna need a bigger boat.

Show me the money!

You can't handle the truth!

Accept it for what it is, a gesture of good will. Moscato gets it. Don't look at it as a Trojan Horse.

Absolutely AUO is open on Wednesday. Sweat shops in China hardly close either. They need you peons to hit the phones, regardless of what day it is.

They need time to put the padlocks on the doors.

All,

Without a doubt, these have been challenging days at Education Management and The Art Institutes. We made some difficult decisions in 2014 as a company, but you persevered. We appreciate your efforts. As a small token of our thanks, Ed West and I decided to provide all Ai employees, faculty and staff with some additional time off,

Ai Ground: your extra day off will be November 26, 2014 (there will be holiday staffing levels in Admissions and SFS). Those employees will be able to take an additional day off based on business needs between now and the middle of January 2015).

Ai Online: your extra day will be December 31, 2014

There may be some exceptions to the above dates so please confirm with your department head. If you have already have scheduled time off on these dates, please cancel that PTO request and reschedule for a different day.

We are making progress, in large part, because of you. Thanks again for such great work under difficult circumstances.

Sincerely,

Tim Moscato

Chief Operating Officer, The Art Institutes
