@219

If you are a single restaurant that serves 1 million customers in a month and employ:

4 chefs
5 "executive chefs" outside of the restaurant in a lavish corpo building
10 playground employees
20 hosts/hostesses
3 waiters
1 busboy
2 dishwashers
40 software engineers
30 security professionals hired from navy seals and SAS

You dont RIF the effin chefs or waiters when your consumer demand shrinks

@218 If you are a restaurant selling meat, and half your regular clientele moves away, you wouldn't keep the same amount of waiters and chefs, you'd cut them down so you can "meat" demand and make more profit than over employing and paying wages you don't need to meet demand. Layoffs are the same thing, at least ones where it's not the company struggling to make payroll at all. Your comment is asinine.

It's not hard to figure out that you don't get more meat by cutting meat

LOL. Nike is doing everything opposite of this Forbes article and wonders why they continue to struggle.

Nike doesn’t even follow businesses 101.

Layoffs ALONE do not fix things

@OP Yes, they do…eventually. Labor is usually the second highest expense for a business after materials. Net profit and EPS are down over 60% since the peak. Do you expect the company to keep the same number people? Go look at how much the number of employees grew during the bo-m years. There’s no way to keep that much labor on board until things turn around. IF they turn around. Most people learn that in Business 101 classes.
