It appears that over 17,000 layoffs have already occurred, and the process is still ongoing.

it's not done manually by HR, it's should be at least semi automated onboarding hitting Slack API: https://docs.slack.dev/
and according that API, a worker has to login manually through browser to complete OAuth2 flow to join the Oracle corporate Slack workspaces, HR won't be able to do it for you.
It's an interesting question when do you join #general. From tests I ran on non-enterprise Slack version, you join workspace #general upon joining the workspace after the login. I wonder if enterprise version got some pre-boarding with batch processing, as I see spikes of joins of many dozen people at once outside of normal hours for Europe and America and I doubt it's New Zealand suddenly mass hiring this month.
@n2 Well, someone is creating new Slack accounts for new hires, so someone has to know how to do it. Heck, it could be contractors.
@d3 lol HR? You mean the dumdums who don't know how to create a private Slack channel?
@a4 buckle up
@b3 maybe they are not finished?
Given the utter lack of transparency who knows how many have been fired?
And who knows how accurate the Slack proxy numbers are? I wouldn't put it past HR to manipulate it, as in create thousands of fake accounts to hide the true numbers.
@a4 You about find out by the end year the total. Don’t be that guy it won’t happen again.
@b3 sep02, 6am UTC: 172796 (0)
So far, around 5,000 employees have been laid off since August. It seems he was correct.
@b3 The layoffs began in August, not September.
could naysayers post a table or chart supporting their claims?
September totals (except Sep01): 4323 layoffs, and 53 additions.
Methodology:
Tracking participants count #general Slack channel in Oracle One workspace
- sep02, 6am UTC: 172796 (0)
- sep03, 7am UTC: 169366 (-3430)
- sep04, 6am UTC: 168958 (-408)
- sep05, 6am UTC: 168771 (-187)
- sep05, 1pm UTC: 168824 (+53 looks like bunch of people were onboarded)
- sep06, 7am UTC: 168579 (-245 and -53 additions discounted = -298)
Can you provide ANY source to your claims about 17k or 10k or anything significantly higher than 4.5k just for September?
Slack #general mentions about 10,000 reductions and still decreasing. I think the poster might be right.
could naysayers post a table or chart supporting their claims?
I think that’s right. about 10,000 have already been impacted, and another 7,000 are about to be, so around 17,000 in total have either been executed or are on the list. But it looks like there will be more coming.
The total headcount was approximately 177,000 prior to the layoffs. Around 10,000 employees have been let go, reducing the current headcount to about 167,000. The layoffs in North America have been completed, with the most recent round affecting over 7,000 employees in EMEA and APAC. The next phase is expected to involve management-level positions, though the number has not yet been confirmed.
You don't know what you are talking about. Go back to hiding behind your computer and bashing our commander in chief with fake news.
Your numbers are way different than anything else that has been reported. Please cite your sources.
4k on September total so far. 3.5k in IDC on August. I highly doubt there were 10k during August outside IDC.
you are just stirring up sh-t, the numbers are nowhere near that stop
