AI has been overhyped, outstandingly so. Leaders saw it as super-effective because it automated the super easy tasks they have to do. Writing. They spend trillions of tokens on writing LinkedIn slop, making dogshit powerpoints, polluting our email inboxes. Writing something is as easy as it gets (not easy for them, though; the moment they stop using AI they type in the most broken grammar imaginable).
But it's only decent at anything complicated. It needs a fair amount of human expert oversight.
Fully offshored labor won't work out, either. It will destroy the business.
Offshored engineers don't engineer. Offshore customer support doesn't support. Offshore processors won't process. They need a script to follow, a really strict script to follow. And then they'll do it at 1/3rd the pace of any highly regarded high-school graduate who just picked up the role.
