Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Too many or too few?

Most of the people think the delay is because too many people accepted the offer, but what if it's the opposite? What if they need the extra time to decide how to handle involuntary layoffs? Or am I just being paranoid?

I think there has been a lot of people confused (rightfully) about what it meant to take the VSP.

I saw a comment somewhere in here where a person applied to the VSP stating if they weren't on a list to be layoff then the VSP will be denied.

I bet other people were thinking the same way, only applying "just in case" and thinking they would only be allowed to leave if their name was already at the top of the list to be let go from their department.

Even if the 20% that people are throwing out there as being the target amount of the total cuts, that means the company still wants/needs to retain 80%.

It would be a shame for a good employee, who rather stay, leave when they had more double the chance to stay, especially when it was under the idea that the company would deny the Request for VSP if they were in the majority of us that will not be laid off.

I really hope that person was in a department that is going to be hit harder than others.

They shifted last year’s messaging that our employees are the most important part of Centene’s success and Psycholgical safety is key to basically $hitting on both those concepts.

Now we’re surprised so many employees have opted in? You took a blow torch to your culture. I think Sarah and Tanya should voluntarily seperate.

My understanding is that there was a recent meeting with health plan CEOs and it was shared that roughly 10% of of the enterprise requested to take the VSP. It’s likely that’s more than they anticipated.

@a5 I think they are trying to get people to withdraw by claiming you will still be an "active" employee to convince more people to stay and be subjected to involuntary layoffs. WE ALL KNOW INVOLUNTARY LAYOFFS ARE COMING. Which could occur with no severance - because they do not have to offer severance at all. Also concocting ways to fire people based on "performance" halting the ability to collect UE. What was the supposed target for the VSP - if that many people applied then they surely hit that "target" no? They hit the target and are going to be spending more than they wanted in severance then they actually wanted. Sounds to me like their plan backfired in their face hugely.

In my honest opinion, I think there were too many applicants. Soo many people applied that they had to change the goal post and emphasize that the. VSP is only for those that want to exit the company. They weren’t saying that sh-t before. And this updated email didn’t indicate weather or not people were going to be laid off in August. Is that a coincidence or are we to asume that the lay offs are still happening based on the first email? I’m so over this - SL ruined everyone’s summer.

@OP I think it’s neither.

they could very much be in a situation where an overwhelming number of who applied were not on the elimination list to begin with. there’s no way they’re going to suddenly keep all those people who they already planned to cut.

what’s the outcome? a lot of pi---d off people on both sides. they need to go back to the drawing board and they are hoping this email drops some of the applications.

I’m inclined to believe they got too many and didn’t plan for it. They probably assumed most people would not want to be voluntarily unemployed. Their strategy backfired.

It's the latter.
Have no fear.
They're no doubt sh!tting bricks in shocked Pikachu faces, wondering why people are so fed up with things at this point, that there was a FLOOD of applications for this VSP offer.

Probably really caught the big wigs off guard...they're clueless as to how over it everyone is with their BS, and got deluged with an overload of people wanting out! Now they'll really have to get to work at wrangling the tsunami...lol.
