Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Anyone else thinking of quitting?

I really hope I get selected this layoff wave otherwise I’m thinking of quitting. Anyone else feel the same? I was planning on waiting till next year but I don’t think I can make it.

Yes. This is one of the worst places to work in the world. Look at all of the company rankings and look at the content posted on this board. Does this seem like a good place to work or build a career?

The 8/1/25 Stank email shows just how bad it has become and how much of a disconnect there is between leaders and employees.

"For one, there are no health benefits in retirement so they will hangout until 65 which was not their plan."

Yep, Stank in his infinite wisdom took away the medicare bridge which has postponed the retirement of a bunch of folks. Stank is a Frickin' id--t.

@a8 you said that 4 years ago, I’m sure. I hear that so much, people in their 60s saying I just want another 2, 3, 5 years, ge-z, just retire already. What are you scared of?

People in their 60's are not scared of anything and do not need to leave just because some Gen X/Y thinks they should. For one, there are no health benefits in retirement so they will hangout until 65 which was not their plan. Others may like to work or have financial obligations. Newbie, a 60 year old is not going to save your job by retiring which is what you are thinking. Unfortunately, you will not have the good fortune of being around until 60. If you are targeted you are out the door for a reason not because the 60 year old in your org has not retired.

This is exactly what they want for you to quit, no severance no unemployment, just leave. DO NOT QUIT

@d5 That's the way to do it. For me, my 2 weeks notice was at the end of the year, when lots of folks were taking PTO. It was a bit like an in-office vacation.

Minimum present value segment rates are going up. I'm done by year's end.

I think you will get more manageable response numbers asking if there is anyone NOT thinking of quitting.

I've already set a date and will give 2 weeks notice beforehand.

If I get some sort of severance before retiring great otherwise I'm still heading out the door.

My retirement plan didn't depend on severance.

Volunteered and I'll be on the 7/1 surplus.

More people are starting to leave as the job market is picking up again. We’re going to see that accelerating for the younger employees and others that don’t have pensions. The only people I see committed to staying are those with pensions and only wanting a “couple more years.”

I quit on 8/2/25 after the notorious stank email. Just haven’t told anyone yet. I do the bare minimum now since that’s market based. Loyalty is dead. I will continue to waste time and resources. Catch me if you can.

I’ve never seen more people leave than have in the first half of this year. Really good people too. We have entered the danger zone now.

This isn’t an airport.

You don’t need to announce your departure.

Just go.

Still virtual. I get that makes some of you angry. My point is, I’m not leaving until they retire me by surplus or by telling me I need to move to whatever office location (which I’m not doing). Until then I will report to office 100 miles away once a month, without complaint.

I quit two years ago. Now I just sit in my truck collecting a pay check.

Don’t quit. Just stop showing up and see how long it takes for the paychecks to stop rolling in.

I think about it every morning I wake up and have to drive into an office, where I dont speak to anyone because no one from my group is co-located anywhere, even though I’m in a major hub I’m the only one here. I just sit on the occasional teams call and work quietly on my deliverables. It’s the pointlessness of it all. We were all remote long before Covid for that very reason. Nobody gives a rip anymore, except the occasional Director or AVP looking to climb another rung. Even then they don’t care what we do so long as our presence report looks good. I’m looking for something else. We’ll see what happens, either I’ll find something else, one of my side hustles will take off, or I’ll get laid off (in which case I might as well retire way early, I’m not even 50).

I'd like two years. I plan to tough it out. If I get laid off before then, thats good too.
