Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

What's the difference between the VSP and severance?

Is it drastic or are they similar?

@af It's very likely that the severance policy has different provisions for different roles / levels / types of employees.

It could be 1 week per year for individual contributors and 2 weeks per year for people leaders. Or maybe it's tied to your last performance review score. Or department. Or clinical role.

No one here knows, but it's likely that there are multiple versions of severance that differ from one person to the next.

@af 100000%.

Ex: The email that came out at 4:55PM last evening, had word FOR word statements that will make an employee forfeit their UE in my state. I honestly think they wrote it out in Bold to all the Lawyers that we may access.

CENTENE has every right to modify or cancel the Offer we put an application in for.

So that way the Corporate shill we witnessed yesterday is covered to blindside folks as they will point to “VOLUNTARY severance”. “DO NOT apply if you want to stay at Centene” Denied for UE. Denied on appeal. What can an Emplyee Lawyer do at this stage..with us just applying not signing?

Wishing every single person, and the ripple effect that will ensue, the very best.

Take it easy this weekend. We can’t predict sh-t. Much love.

@as I think you mean 10 months of COBRA vs. 10 weeks.

VPs and above severance policy outlined in Archer (search severance in Archer) is twenty-six (26) weeks of salary continuance severance pay. One week’s severance pay is equal to the Eligible Employee’s annual base salary at the time of termination divided by fifty-two (52).

Compare to VSP which seems to be 39 weeks max based on what long tenured assocaties are sharing plus prorated bonus and 4 weeks enhanced severance.

No documented below VPs severance policy in Archer. Find it difficult to imagine a non VP severance would be equal to or better than a documented VP severance.

@ah 2 weeks per year of service? Or 2 weeks total & then you were able to collect unemployment?

@af I can tell you that there is a Capp. 39 weeks so for some it my seem like they are getting 2 weeks per yr of service. For others it will be less, bc of the cap. Example: if you have 30 years of service, you get 39 weeks. If you have 15 years of service you get 36 weeks. I’m speaking from experience with two colleagues that: one was laid off. The other received the VSP.

To comment on the additional weeks, the VSP is offering additional 4 weeks. RIF did not offer that.

Cobra: it seems like it can be up to 10 weeks under VSP. The RIF offers a bit less. Again, speaking about what my colleagues told me.

Hoping for the best outcomes. Good luck to everyone.

When I was laid off in 2021 it was 2 weeks. I’ve heard people say they got 1 week. So this lets you know it can be anything.

@af yup you are correct - it is unknown. There is no policy.

This is the issue, one person says 1 week per year worked, another 2 weeks per year of service. Which is it? And is there a cap years worked? And where is this in writing? The severance is the unknown.

Best I can tell, VSP is just the standard severance (2 weeks per year of service) plus an additional 4 weeks. Or at least that's what it was for me. Might vary from one person to another. There's also coverage for the COBRA premium as part of the VSP for a specified number of months, but I don't know if standard severance includes it at all.
