Thread regarding Optum layoffs

@x6 🎯 The person doing the downvoting is one of the managers we are discussing. People are hitting the nail on the head and it’s itching their behinds. They must have thought employees’ silence meant they rule. Lol. Not! People are sick of useless, draining and non-productive “leadership.”

@xj The 15 employees per manager applies to managers of front line employees. If you are a manager with only 5 employees, what are you doing all day? But yes it is crazy for somone to just manage a team of 5 people unless you are director or higher and even then that is overhead heavy. Lots of grade 28-30 are being let go in the next round.

@w9 what do you mean,? Team size depends on the project and the approved funding. If anything a director l a director level manager having just 5 looks bad and might get reorged.. why pay someone to manage just 5? It's not like directors can do anything else to meaningfully contribute in most cases. Exceptions exist.

It’s well deserved for all the spineless micro managers….

@w9 I thought the new requirement was 15 employees per manager. A 5 person team should be reorged as they are not big enough to be team.

A 10 person team is ripe to be cut. I'd want under 5 if I was still there and even then that might not be safe

@f0 😆 most managers here don’t act in a “moral way”. It’s easy to sniff out imposters. Managers here are vile, like several posts say. Look at the “VP Quit” thread. They bully and layoff employees while keeping each other and will sink with this ship when employees are gone. Can’t wait!

@bm They really do use copilot for notes and the notes are terrible, hence the same loser(s) downvoted your comment. Copilot doesn’t take decent notes. It summarizes everything.

Hmm, how come the comments about bad managers are being downvoted, who could be doing that except a bad manager? 😆

@ea Oh wow, that sounds like a terrible mess. And I’m sure employees ended up suffering. Where is HR? They are useless in this company, and when they aren’t, they are joining the perpetrators.

@e6 DL, this must be you downvoting comments lol. Toxic AF! Your day is coming. Cases a ton of people to be laid off because you wanted to climb up the ladder on the backs of others. I hope you are proud of yourself on that island.

@e6 my management team is not who is described. I do think that generally my new management team acts in a moral way. My previous manager is about as bad as they come, and sorry to whomever works him now. It's weird that people generally accept that who is let go seems to be not based on metrics and largely nonsensical, but when you describe the position that is lost, it's a problem?

@bm This is SO real. People use Co-Pilot not as a tool but as their brain where they reply, respond and make decision that are robotic. It's so backwards. And the leaders doing it I keep wondering how did you get this far?

No kidding: worked on a team who in the past 20 years had manager after manager . Many lasted a few weeks. In one case they bullied each other from the same directors team, in another instance the SICM and her bestie Manager ganged up on another manager to oust for the position so the SICM could apply. The SICM was a nut job, having all the skills of a manipulative, self serving, discriminating person. Other managers play the good guy manipulating the work environment so they get twice the work out of their reports as the team burns out with always the subtle threat that there will be dire consequences and always using good job constantly while she relishes and reports that management is sooo happy with their performance but why wouldn’t they, your doing 3 days worth of work in one day and she is going to get a big bonus but if you burnout it’s your fault, you just don’t know how to manage your time.

@dw I’ve also been downvoted at least twice when I meant no harm, but upvoted several times lol. I think how we say things can get us here. Don’t take it personally. As someone asked, I am curious if your current manager’s last name ends with L, in the team referenced below. He’s a bully and the type to come here then try to obtain sympathy from employees by playing the victim. He caused the layoff of at least 4 people not even in his team. He’s a chauvinist, and the quintessential je-k. Sorry you are getting the brunt of his sh**

@dw I don’t think people are taking it that deeply. But the language you used was SUS, and it’s how managers speak. Let me ask a question. In OI, does the software product you work on start with an A or a D. Did you lose your manager post integration to CHC? If this is the case, your mgr is unfortunately why you got downvoted. He’s awful lol, and sadly most OI mgrs, sr mgrs and dir’s are trash! 😂

@b8 I didn't submit anything. I'm also a 27 engineer. This went from 6 ups to 5 downs purely because people thought I was management. Y'all need therapy and to leave asap. I understand that is easier said than done, but this place is causing you too much distress.

@bm Yes, Mgrs, Sr Mgrs and lots of Dir.s especially in Optum Insight, starting with the rotten Change Healthcare should go. Very top-heavy and all they do is micromanage people with smartsheets, a vendor pm software. Take this out and these losers can’t function. They have destroyed other groups yet they brought the breach, caused huge client loss, brought layoffs and this foolish HR isn’t paying attention. All they do is layoff the other groups and keep themselves and their top heavy leadership. Beyond atrocious. They only keep those who are bullies like themselves. Don’t trust any Sr Mgr in this trash group, lol!

@b8 directors and sr. Directors in my department are not doing any work except be on calls all the long asking questions. And use copilot to summarize and send it to team members to review and respond. They have not delivered one thing of any value in years. I don't know how they sleep at night being such low life. FIRE THE FU--ING MIDDLE MANAGER MO--NS if you want this company to survive.

@b9 Exactly, these managers are so toxic, most of them make high salaries and don’t do any work. They bully then layoff employees while keeping their jobs. Very toxic and bad system. These managers need to go!

If you look at the pattern of layoffs- it’s the managers with retaliatory agenda doing the picking.

@a4 You didn’t “lose an engineer”. You submitted their name. Listen up UHG, the way you do these layoffs will get you class-actioned one day. You allow managers to determine who should be laid off. Most of these managers are horrible people, bullies! Not to say @a4 is one, but most, and especially in Optum Insight, are horrible people. In decent companies, layoffs are determined by HR! Not the case here, hence these managers are laying off everyone and keeping each other. Very top heavy because of this So, so gross! Layoff one manager and you can keep 2-3 employees!

I would think that there's a concentration of reductions in Minnesota generally and fewer opportunities for new positions posted in the state here too. Minnesota's state government has become hostile to business and made employment exceptionally expensive and inflexible here.
