Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Is Quality Ops being hit today?

Also, are we still on August 13th as the day?

@r8

A GOOD one indeed.
People living in a box, the success of a company is R&D who come out with new product that the market needs, Commercial sales and marketing will then sell the product. These are the two most vital department.

The rest is just complimentary to making a good product.

So since when QA itself becomes the core driver of the company success. 😁😁

And you obviously don't really understand the quality system, what that department does, and how our it has contributed to our market success thus far.”

Hahahahahahaha!!!!
Good one!

@s7 I prefer to have a serious QA like Illumina rather than one like Boeing.
Though I can see how some work is now done with a lot more compromises for resources reasons.
Fingers crossed things will improve overall.

Haha. So laughable

Are you serious about Quality at all cost! Business should have a quality system that support its growth and not those no brainer quality personal or system that locked the operation and drag the processes instead of helping it to meet the standard with better productivity.

We have had RIFs like clockwork every 6 months in August and February for several years now. If the rumors are false this time, it's a relief.

Obviously ELT will take this website into account for announcing RIF.

@q3 This website has been right on the money multiple times about upcoming RIFs, nailing the exact dates way before any official announcements or WARN notices went out. WARN notices aren't issued ahead of time. The website has only been wrong once before, and even then it was only off by a couple of weeks.

@py Honestly this site is probably a huge factor. Goes something like this: Illumina employee hears a vague mention of possible RIFs in August, comes here and posts about it. Lots of Illumina employees check this site, see rumors (some of which can be unfounded), and take the rumors back to their team, who then circulate the rumor and some then come and make more posts about the same rumor on this site. The rumor gains traction and seems more legit because everyone starts talking about it and because recent RIFs are fresh in everyone's memory, but it turns out to be a game of rumor telephone that has just grown legs.

On several occasions in the past, RIF posts on this site were made following official confirmation of RIFs, whether by way of company announcement or WARN notices, which clearly communicate the veracity of the pending RIFs. This time though, it seems this August RIF was just based on hearsay and nothing more. This site is clearly anonymous so I wish people would be a bit more revealing with their sources. Probably a good idea to take anything on here worth a grain of salt until RIFs are confirmed from a more official source.

I honestly don't know where false rumors are coming from. Nothing is happening , nothing has happened.

@p7 and the other trolls.

Trying to direct blame on a specific Illumina department for company performance in the context of repeated RIFs is a sign of poor character and reeks of anxiety on your part.

And you obviously don't really understand the quality system, what that department does, and how our it has contributed to our market success thus far.

Why don't you initiate an improvement effort to address whatever you think needs improvement instead of just being an a**hole.

@hk 100% agree. Quality team is too big Nd the processes are unnecessary for RUO. We should have separate processes for RUO vs IVD

Truly truly Quality team need better people who know what to do.

@j3 Quality systems and the organization that runs it have always been a sh*t-show at this company. Inconsistent and incompetent

Fully agree it is time for some house cleaning.

@h9 you must be a quality expert. Please, tell us more.

I think the application of an ISO-13485 mindset and process (don’t tell me PCP is flexible— it is, with a ton of wasted effort to make it so) to our RUO products has been as bad for Illumina as everything that stemmed from the Grail fiasco. We probably have more people in “Quality” than Element has at their whole company.

I'm questioning whether there will even be a RIF tomorrow... usually there is more chatter on this site when there is.

There's no sufficient info. The last thread was about IF someone get 1:1s with their manager, but that doesn't necessarily mean layoffs. No one confirmed people being impacted in Quality, yet someone assumed it. Please keep calm in these circumstances.
