Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is Pre-notice Common?

A colleague told me they got some sort of pre-notice (working) of ~30 days before they were going to get an official notice of 60 days (non-working) in the near future. I've only heard of something like this in broad locations getting displaced and NOT individuals. Is this new or just very unique situation? EVERY individual I've known displaced prior was immediately non-working.

@j0 - At what time during the process do you do this?

"For anyone getting laid off and eligible for Retirement, make sure and call the Severance line and ask to change your Workday status to Retired so that you will continue to get your Retail services (checking and other discounts). "

I was initially told about a year in advance that I had an Emergency exception. It turned out to be over a year. Then I was given an approximate 30-90 day unofficial notice without an exact date. Then one Tuesday, a couple of months later, I was told I was going on the 60 day official notice, 3 weeks of it would be working and the remaining time would be non-working. I knew it was coming but the whole process was just crazy! When the time finally came, no team goodbyes, just a call from upper manager saying thank you and good luck - this after 40+ years. I'm so glad I was finally let go, the last 7 years were extremely difficult, and I was hanging on by a thread. For anyone getting laid off and eligible for Retirement, make sure and call the Severance line and ask to change your Workday status to Retired so that you will continue to get your Retail services (checking and other discounts). Otherwise, you will be charged for your checking even if your severance paycheck is being deposited to it.

I’ve heard of people getting a 90 day notice but don’t remember how much of that was working/non-working. I think it was related to either being remote or location specific things.

I know a few people who were offered relo and had 30 days to decide before being placed on 60 days

Those of us remote, were told years in advance, but my manager was decent enough to give me notice way in advance.

I have heard of this in TECHCTO since the beginning of the year 2-3 times. I wouldn’t say the people being cut were particularly valuable as far as hyper-important position. But they were definitely what you could consider “good people” and quality employees so it could have been a combination of empathy and that the +1 actually knew it was going to happen vs only a day or two notice.

This isn't uncommon for WF. I have been displaced twice. First time it was working 60 days. Second, non-working.

Your colleague either does something very important and cannot simply we walked-away from.... Or your colleague does something so utterly unimportant that Wells has zero concern about the intentionally sc--wing with stuff in those 30 days...

An official pre-notice? My manager gave me a back channel heads up but nothing official. I was able to find an opening to move to so the unofficial pre-notice ended up saving my skin
