There is irony in this thread that is for sure.

People outside of America don't work for Dell America. They work for "Dell Germany", "Dell South Africa", "Dell Australia" or "Dell UK". Separate financial entities, they offer the benefits and pay that are normal in that country and yes if that country has great employee benefits & safeguards then that is offered to workers in those countries.

Proudly vegetarian employed by a separate vegetarian entity in that country.

I can't believe you didn't pick up the sarcasm and a playoff on your words. No one in America thinks they vote for politics in another country. No one.

But my other statement still stands:
There is something ironic lauding socialism while working for and benefiting from an American company. You pride yourself on being vegetarian yet are employed by an abattoir.

I can't believe this needs to be explained but... Americans (Voters or Companies) have nothing to do with what the rules are in other countries. If any company wants to have a business in a country then they need to offer similar benefits to the other companies in that country or they would not be able to hire anyone.
Pretty much all of EMEA (with a few exceptions of course) have systems in place to take care of people who lose their income when it happens for no fault of their own. Some of it is paid by Government (usually something like X week per year worked in that job) and sometimes the companies add (X weeks per year worked in that job) on top of what the Government guarantees. Again this is needed to attract the right talents to work for you.
The pay-outs for someone who have worked say 10 or more years can be substantial (they are usually capped at a given point. Like 12/24/36 months salary (depending on the country) and yes, this is usually the benefit of many years voting for Centre to Centre left Governments who have it on their agenda to look after the workers instead of the millionaires.

@a9 It always boggles my mind why mind why Americans want to have it this way. After a long tenure at Dell it was finally my turn to turn my badge in, and I could watch Netflix for most of next year and still have the money rolling in if I wanted to.

You can thank the Spanish Socialist Workers Party for the workers rights and protections when it comes to eliminating someone from a job. US Americans on here freak out when they hear "Socialist" but simultaneously want the same rights and protections those types of governments provide.

Statuary in Spain is 20 days per year including bonus pro-rata capped at 12 months salary. Tax free. Wondering if they are offering anything above that currently
