Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

NJ WARN Notice doesn't have Verizon listed for Nov'25, Dec'25, or 2026

When does Verizon notify the New Jersey state regarding the number of people being laid-off and the date when they get laid off or the date they are off payroll? Currently, I don't see Verizon on the NJ WARN Notice for 2025 for Nov'25 or Dec'25 or 2026.

Has Verizon already notified other states of the upcoming layoffs? Is it listed in your states WARN notice?

FACT CHECK!

Verizon (or any covered large company in NJ) can NOT simply pay severance to avoid the notice.

The 90-day notice is REQUIRED, and severance pay (one week per year of service) is an independent, mandatory requirement. If they provide less than 90 days' notice, they are penalized with the additional four weeks of pay.

TO ANSWER ORIGINAL QUESTION

How Verizon Could Avoid It: Instead of laying off 15% (which would be thousands of people nationwide) in just a few days, Verizon could:

- Lay off fewer than 50 employees in New Jersey every 30 days.
- Lay off small groups (e.g., 20 people) across 5 or more distinct 30-day periods.
- By keeping the number below 50 within each rolling 30-day window, they avoid triggering the "Mass Layoff" definition in the statute.
  • Voluntary Separation Packages (VSP) being offered would also avoid "NJ WARN'
notifications......BUT, that's not happening this time around.

@OP Vz can get around that if they offer severance for same amount of days as the WARN requirement.

@b8 Verizon pays severance so it basically makes WARN unnecessary. The point of WARN, at it's core, is to not be suddenly stuck without income. If a company pays severance then the notice period can be shorter, or not occur at all, and still have the same effect.

If you've only ever worked for Verizon or other large companies you don't know how lucky you are to have severance. It is not at all the norm, which is why WARN exists.

Meanwhile, what's the point of warn anyway? They aren't warning anyone if they're posting it to warn the day it happens. They're DOING, not warning

If your getting severance and benefits that go out worth 90 days in nj then no need for pre warn .That date your told is the warn cause they’re giving you the90 days after

@a2 Verizon has fewer than 50 employees that will be impacted in some States. If under 50 are layed off in a State, Federal WARN act does not apply to those workers.82

@a1 Why would the off payroll date be 12/20? That would be only 31 days from the time of notice. The Federal Law requires a 60 day. From the time of employee notification to the time off payroll should be 60 days total (including weekends) minimum. Some states may have a 90 day notice.

It will show up on the 20th, and off payroll dates will be 12/20, 1/20, 2/20 depending on what state you’re in. It’s a common tactic to get around WARN.
