Just got the call from my boss. Position eliminated. I got the impression she did not know until shortly before I did. I had my review yesterday and got 4 then this today.

@a5 yes. I’m just shy of ten years and a 26. I will get 8 weeks severance.
A 4 and then laid off the next day. Rough. I'm sorry to hear this for you.

Sorry to hear for you. I think many of us have been there over our careers. It stinks but hopefully something good will come of it for you, it usually does.
In terms of whether they knew, they probably did. They would have had to go through the training for reductions. Your leader might be someone who hasn’t done these before or not many and didn’t know what to say or how to say it (they make you keep it short and brief without saying much). It’s terrible being on either side of it. Obviously for the employees impacted it’s the most terrible, but for those managers doing it (that have a heart and care about their employees) those are the worst days in your career as well.
