Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Rumor mill now says instead of a Union Eisp they will have a one tech does all title

So I’m in field I don’t really care. But are they saying central office techs are gonna do field work vs versa .That all tech title will do all tech title work.Pretty sure this would be a disaster but Hearing frontier does this currently now they are owned by Verizon!!!

@107 He did, when he said, "I must express my profound dissatisfaction"

un·hap·py (ŭn-hăp′ē)

  1. Not happy or joyful; sad or sorrowful: unhappy over his friend's departure.
  2. Not satisfied or pleased with a situation; displeased or discontented: unhappy with her raise.
"many were unhappy about the scale of the cuts"

@105 Who said that power was "unhappy"? Seems to me the poster never expressed they were unhappy working at Verizon, in fact the way I read it the poster was very happy, just does not want to enter a home, and I don't blame them! I work in corp finance and I would leave my position if I was made to go to peoples homes as it is not what I signed up for either... and I LOVE my job!

@bq "...I would add, at the risk of revealing my identity, that I hold a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from MIT... a distinction that, to my knowledge, no other full-time employee in this organization possesses...."
Why not just sign your post? If you're as unhappy as your diatribe describes, why not do something besides manifesto-ing to change it?

I don't buy it. It's been talked about since the nineties. I doubt it's gonna work any better now with most people 30 years older.

The one tech out that Frontier rolled out has turned into an absolute disaster. The only techs that get all the sh-t dumped on them is the techs that have been here for 30+ years. The young guys scream
“ I don’t do copper” and are allowed to skate. One tech out will never work no matter what that Manager Fariola says. Oh and if it does get implemented? Get ready for a 75% trick rate.

@dn it was always stupid to have vzb folks drive to vzt area to do anything. Even crazier to have vzb drive vzw in vzt area. Such redundant silo nonsense. Vzb was a bloated pig run by self serving fools, vzw is arrogant incompetence who enjoy natural growth without struggling, those days are over, vzt is dead dog with alto much overhead . Got to consolidate but if they don’t get the #raaataardsincharge changes none of it will matter

@d2 Maybe the person loves that kind of work and is passion about it no matter that persons educations. I know of a person that was an internal surgeon and after a few years gave it all up to be a fishing guide. So what is your point? Seems maybe you are are threaten by a person of greater education than you?

@b0 I must express my profound dissatisfaction, and I would submit that such a decision warrants your termination. Furthermore, entering private residences was never a condition to which I consented upon accepting this role.
I have been engaged in this profession since 1988, during which time residential entry was indeed part of my responsibilities. I witnessed, firsthand, a man discharge a firearm at his wife within their own home. He subsequently fled the premises, entered his vehicle, and departed. I was left to telephone emergency services; she survived, though the incident left an indelible mark on me. Following that experience, I resolved unequivocally: never again.

For the past twenty-two years, I have dedicated myself to cell site work with Verizon Wireless, and I see no justifiable reason to be required, at this stage, to re-enter private homes. Should such a requirement be imposed upon me, I would tender my resignation and await an opportunity with T-Mobile, an organization that does not, to my knowledge, dispatch its technicians into residential settings. I recognize, of course, that compensation is provided by this company and the people paying for service; nevertheless, after two decades of service, and having deliberately sought out a position devoted to field RF engineering, I did not agree to this expectation.

I would add, at the risk of revealing my identity, that I hold a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from MIT... a distinction that, to my knowledge, no other full-time employee in this organization possesses.

@b0 I’m not saying I’m too good. But that’s not what I signed up for. I’m not a people person. I do behind the scenes work for a reason.

@ad I would strongly encourage that if you are making life changing decisions based off information you are getting from this message board…..to immediately stop lol.
Honestly though 95% of the stuff here is bogus, obviously some has been true but you should not be basing any decisions off what you read here, especially major ones

If true this company is d-mber than I thought. They’re going to have bunch of 60 to 64 year olds on disability on the payroll instead of offering a good EISP SND getting a billion dollars OF CAPEX off the books? Not too bright.

In fgte land they moved the work outside so cots could sit on their a-s. Then they realized the didn’t have enough people to cover after hour call outs so they tried to go back and HR or labor relations said. NOPE

It was in the new contract cots will be doing vz bus work and vice versa. 1 inside tech role for all the physical network work inside. Service techs will still work outside and linemen also. Also major surplus coming inside and outside and a few job titles prob will be eliminated. There are provisions in the contract that outline that. Senior vz bus techs will become cots, vz bus service techs ect and then any other provisional carve out titles will be surplussed. They made sure to agree to that this contract. It allows VZ to use the union in any job titles essentially and allows them to just surplus's the remaining job titles they dont need anymore using the new technology language. Union has been busted basically.

I’m actually becoming confused what the company as a whole home is doing !!Im so confused thats I have no clue what their planning after Watching what’s going on in the company from poor wireless service coverage with high prices that are confusing .To the losss of customers to competitors in the business market along with residential.Watching poor investment after poor investment that’s obvious to Wall Street which is why they were booted from Dow followed by the stock sinking

This one tech verbiage is not about osp &isp techs doing each others work. It is about a vzt cot being able to do vzw clec cage work, instead of sending a vzb tech to wireless site in franchise you dispatch vzt cot. Instead of vzb tech doing customer prem we send a splicer. Etc. It’s in the new union contract everyone approved. I would not be surprised to see splicer take over rf work.
