My understanding, when they decide it's your turn, they cut access to corporate emails and any company system. Do they send email to personal mailbox? Or do they reach out via phone call/message?

@ny wait lets back this one up lol. I was a “sh---y “ mgr because that info doesnt get shared by Hr? Ok clown. Let me guess . You were one of the sh---y sc-mbag employees im stuck dealing with daily who got terminated but its not his fault. Its his managers. Am i right? Fu--ing loser
@jh maybe you need to reach out to someone for more training. When I was laid off my manager absolutely had the number of weeks of severance and the healthcare stipend dollar amount.

You must be one of those incompetent mgrs that I mentioned.
There is absolutely a document that you retrieve from the system that provides medical reimbursement dollars and weeks of severance pay for the employee.
I don’t get how incompetent some of the mgrs are when the steps are written out for us and the people team holds meetings about preparing for the employee conversation. I was always surprised at how unprepared many of the mgrs were on those calls. They obviously hadn’t even looked at any of the materials in detail.
Do better. You’re affecting an actual person and their ability to pay bills when you perform a layoff.

You are definitely one of those lewzers that needs to be ‘clipped’. There are mostly good to excellent people being fired. But you would not know that because you are humanity’s version of a broken toilet.
@cy as a mgr nobody has ever given me amounts of what someone receives so you’re full of sh-t. And unless the person is being offered one of their new notice period options we do not know what that offer is so stop gas lighting these people
@aj who says the person is competent? Lol. You all act like everyone who gets clipped is a loss. Many are not while some dont make sense. Those are not that large in number
They shouldnt cut anything before having a conversation with you. As soon as the convo ends its supposed to be called in as a high risk termination and they submit access to cut you off from everything
Post ID: @d3+1kx77wadw It comes from the reporting budget (same as comp). So the person in your reporting chain who owns the purse strings can affect the decision to pay or not pay severance.
It really depends on your manager and your situation. But yeah, they usually schedule a random meeting to break the news.
My manager was a complete a**, and the whole thing was comedy gold if it hadn’t been happening to me. From the ridiculous responses to the way they handled everything leading up to it, it was a masterclass in incompetence.
Then they left my network and mobile access active for months because I was supposedly there to “assist with the transition.” Funny, because the official HR paperwork never mentioned anything about that. It was just another made-up excuse. I had absolutely no intention of doing any “transition assistance,” so I happily ignored that fantasy. Instead, I enjoyed a few months of paid, uninterrupted peace. The whole thing was complete nonsense.
@cy thanks for your reply. I just have 1 more question: does the severance $ come directly from department/ group budget or it is a general expense of the organization?
It depends heavily on whether your manager has a moral compass.
I stopped being a mgr earlier this year but had to layoff one of my team in January.
As managers, we are given a document that shows us how much medical reimbursement in dollars the employee will receive and how many weeks of severance. We are to confirm home address , email and phone number. We are to advise you that you will receive an email with full details and need to be sure to sign the release in order to receive those payments.
A good mgr will tell you to expect it to come from a specific email extension as it doesn’t come from bny.com (I can’t recall the actual extension now).
I gave my team member a chance to air any grievances and I apologized sincerely. The mgr documentation says to shut it down and not allow this, but to me it’s about being a decent human being. Unfortunately a lot of people at bny su-k at this.
I also told my employee that I would give him a chance to say goodbye to the team and be in the call when I tell them that he was laid off, if he wanted (he did and in my opinion, while difficult, made us acknowledge the person and impact). Most mgrs shy away from this because it’s difficult.
Managers immediately log into the system to indicate the conversation was done which begins your access shutdown.
Managers are also supposed to take an additional action in the system to mail you a label for returning equipment and confirm all your contact information (address, email, phone). This is a step many incompetent mgrs miss because they are so focused on their own discomfort and want to end the call quickly and think shutting down your access means a job well done.
Your Manager schedules a random 1:1 Twams meeting out of the blue. They may ask you to not come into the office that day to make it less disruptive. You will notified and briefly told your fate and advised your network access is being revoked. Your status will show as ‘vvv in front of your name in Outlook and a white circle will appear on Teams next to your name and your badge will no longer work.
Optional: Your Manager will apologize that they had to let you go and you will be told you will be contacted by HR with further details on your separation and how to return your badge and other corporately owned assets. Your coworkers will react in shock when they find out that another competent, knowledgeable experienced person lost their job so unexpectedly. It plays out in slow motion like being involved in a car accident you were involved with but didn’t see coming.
