Why are people getting fired lately for what I can only call bullsh-t reasons? Two folks I know have been kicked out in the last two months. I'm now starting to worry they've decided severance is too expensive and will be getting rid of us using other means instead of layoffs.

Or they make threats to move your position to Houston (knowing you cant move) then say when you don’t move your’e fired. At the bville control center does this.
They want silent employees that have no opinions — regardless of level. They pay well above industry average at the senior levels to keep your mouth shut. At the lower level, you stay silent to get promoted. At a 19 and below it costs them very little to get rid of you.
Stay silent, tell the ELT how special they are, and you will have a great and long career at Phillips 66. If you want to make a difference and actually learn how to run a company to win, look elsewhere.
