Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Why is there never a WARN notice?

Isn't it required by law?

@OP Do you really think VZ doesn’t have lawyers that know the layoff procedures?

Read the WARN statue requirements.
Can’t get more than 50 employees impacted at a single site when so many work from home… or if hybrid employees get counted to their bosses location.. that’s how they get around the 60 days WARN notice requirement

NJ is one of only a few states that have a State law for notifying employees where most states just use the Federal statute..

@a5 Something to keep in mind as well is that in NJ the threshold is 50 employees and "Multiple Statewide Locations Are Treated as One Entity".. so WFH, BR, stores etc all qualify.

Pretty much any layoff of significance from Verizon is going to trigger an NJ WARN.

@OP no it’s not always required - if you knew how to use Google you’d know the answer

@OP Federal WARN - Applies to employers with 100 or more full-time workers.
Definition of "Mass Layoff" triggering notice requirements:
• 50 or more full-time employees are laid off if they constitute one-third or more of the full-time employees at the site, or
• 500 or more full-time employees.

You don't have to file WARN if you give sufficient notice, which Verizon does in lieu of WARN

The warn notice posts after the news is delivered to employees. Vz never posts the noticed until they have informed us. Since they tell us 30 or more days before off boarding they are following the law.

They get filed with the appropriate state after the employees are notified.

It gets filed AFTER the fact, it’s never going to be forward looking.
