When you turn in a laptop paint a big red X on the back of it. So people will know they are getting one that wiuldnt run what someone else needed.

@av 30 yrs in WF tech? Fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu. You should have been let go at least 15 years ago then. I have yet to meet someone who’s been in Tech at Wells 15 years or more that can handle any kind of change. You were institutionalised long ago and your value add has diminished past break even.

Rumor in WIM is that we are all getting new laptops because the current ones can’t handle the AI requirements.

I thought the laptops have always been refurbished. Bought in bulk & new memory & hard drives installed is what a tech told me years ago when mine died.

This same thing happened to me, my cloud PC was removed, I got an email saying that I would be prioritized for a new laptop haven't heard anything since. My old laptop finally died and it took until my third "new" laptop on Win11 before it wouldn't stop crashing. Five days of work lost due to having to set up a new laptop each time. #Efficiency

Maybe this explains why I received an email several months ago saying a new laptop would be ordered for me and to complete a form (which I did) but then the laptop never arrived and I never heard anything more about it. Was relieved since I didn't want a new laptop -- some help desk person just signed me up for one after blaming an issue I'd called them about on the fact that my laptop was older. The issue went away so that must not have been it. Hopefully this laptop will last a few more years since I definitely don't want a recycled one. I think it's like 5 or 6 years old (HP). I'm not on Windows 11 and don't want to be. Have heard so many negative things about Win11 not working well with all the antiquated WFB systems my team uses, etc. Will they force me to switch to Win11 soon? Ugh.

We also need to get rid of the send work to India crowd. The amount of handholding we have to do with them is nuts. But I guess it wouldn’t work because someone’s sister in law in India is probably getting kickbacks for all the new hired there.

Been in WF tech for over 30 years. This is just abysmal incompetence.

I was given an older laptop while current one struggled with code builds yet I’m given 1500$ month in tokens for copilot. I don’t get it.

Argument #1:
Laptops are being rationed and recycled. Yes, recycled. So that laptop you just got might be 3 years old and won't handle the windows 11 upgrade. Team members are going through three four and five laptops before they find one that can handle Windows 11.

Argument #2:
They want you to come into the office but they don't want to give you a computer.
And what LOB is doing that? Care to share?

Meanwhile we have all these groups pointlessly tokenmaxxing.

Technology has always been pretty bad at Wells Fargo. This is unacceptable. How are we going to sell products customers without compute.
Yeah, cause we don't have any compute. How does this bank even function?

What is a lot more? And who are the wrong ones that we need to fire a lot more of?

How does all this tie in with your assersion that it is due to wasted money on virtual machines? Explain that to us. Oh wait, you can't because you just tried and you are all over the place with your post.

Exactly. The reality of the situation is that the company is currently in the exact same place or was pre-scandal. Executives making stupid decisions with absolutely no checks/balances, and the "leaders" below them have had all their power to even try to mitigate the damage stripped away. There's literally nothing we can do but shrug and say "whatever, let's do some stupid S, I guess". Any real attempt at resistance will just result in getting fired. Long term, executive stupidity also gets is fired, but maybe in that case we get our severance. We're in an Fd up place and it's just a matter of time before the company is in trouble again.

Been in technology 30+ years and we TRIED to tell these mo--ns 4 years ago that this would not scale. They had nothing but constant problems. Just another brain-dead venture from the Hudson Yard clown show.

The only people we NEED to fire work at Hudson Yards.
