Wausau/Menominie/Cumberland - Culture?

Hello, how is the culture at these locations? How does pay compare for the local cost of living? Any of these sites union? Have seen fairly frequent job postings both internal and external the last few years with positions I could qualify for. Would like some insight to these locations if possible, thank you

Menomonie and Cumberland are both non union. Wausau is union, but I’m not sure if it’s bad/strong of a union as Cottage Grove, Hartford City, Tonawanda.

Wausau is also an IMPD plant that makes roofing granules so a pretty niche business compared to Cumberland and Menomonie. There are 3 other IMPD plants (Corona, CA; Pittsburg, NC and Little Rock, AR), but outside of that division that technology is not really applicable elsewhere. Outside of that I don’t know much, but union plants typically do not have as good of a working environment/culture as a non union site.

Cumberland is a smaller Abrasives plant. They also make floor pads for CSD (or whatever it’s called now) on one of the nonwoveb abrasive makers. I think Cumberland is 200-300 person plant. I don’t know much beyond this, but know multiple people who worked there and enjoyed it.

Menomonie is an FMS/FMSCO or whatever it is these days and is by far the most diversified of the 3. It’s also probably the most corporate-y of the three. Some of the managers definitely like to come off a bit West Wing esque (pre 2016), but you really won’t see much of the plant director nor any of their direct reports as they basically sit in meetings all day. Employee retention isn’t what it once was, but it’s still a decent place to work with a lot of your stereotypical Wisconsin folks. It’s a very well kept facility and when it has space come available it gets filled with new CapEx pretty quickly. In the past several years AdMD, DMSD and EMSD have all made significant investment into the site. If you’re looking for opportunities to work in different businesses/technologies this will by far be the site with the most opportunity of the three. Probably somewhere in the ballpark of 800 employees and one of the largest US sites behind Hutchinson and Cottage Grove. Additionally Menomonie probably has the best location and there’s lots of other options on where to live. It you want small town Wisconsin there’s Menomonie itself or tons of surrounding towns. If you want bigger and a growing city there’s Eau Claire. If you want to be close to twin cities Hudson is close enough to commute.

Good people, good pay for the areas they're in. Only negative is that if you're not a Sconnie hunting/fishing/etc local you get treated a bit different. Unsure if they're union at all - maybe Wausau?
