Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Any Precedent like this situation? Any legal protection possible?

For this situation where VSP was accepted but the end date is like 6-16 months from now, has this happened in other companies? This all seems like the company’s attempt to CYA themselves with their mistake of offering VSP to everyone. It just seems like Centene doesn’t want to give out too much VSP benefits, and they’re hoping for attrition, that folks (who clearly signed up for VSP) will either leave on their own or get PIP’d or get fired.
Since there’s no job protection during this 9-16 period, what else can we do? I’m curious if anyone has thought about contacting a lawyer to review this situation. I’m not planning to initiate that myself, but if someone wants to form a group to explore that, please sign me up!

Don't waste your time and money, it's completely legal extending out the VSP term date. Even if they extended your VSP end date to 12/2026 they can still let you go tomorrow under the at-will employment contract.

@OP I knew by the vague a-s VSP wording this company would sc--w everyone out if anything offered. What a bunch of liars and crooks. Laughing all the way to the banks

@a6 agree. I felt it in my soul that a pending layoff was inevitable. My co workers I’m close with all got 9/4 separation dates and we are all in different departments.

@OP tell me you're dense without telling me you're dense. This is the norm, why would any HP product drop all their employees when they still have an on going contract with the state? Offering the VSP to everyone means nothing when Centene controls how many are accepted.

Raise your hand if you believe the VSP was intended for every Centene employee. If you raised your hand, slap yourself.

Getting fired isn't an easy task. You must be a really sh---y employee for that to happen...and it takes forever.

@aa Through this program most of the necessary restructuring was accomplished. As a result there will a far smaller number of involuntary departures, all of which will be notified by mid-August.

I honestly think those of us who are a part of the 9/4 group were going to be laid off. I have no proof of that, that’s just what I feel.

This whole process has been very difficult and stressful! I have 8/27 separation date which is absolutely ridiculous! To have to continue to work for another year knowing in the back of mind I have a huge target on my back is crazy! No amount of money! I don’t understand this and then doing layoffs is wild

I feel like we were led to believe on or around 9/1/26 per the VSP personalized statement. It should have included all the various other optional dates but it doesn't.
It says "your assumption date is assumed to be around September 1,2026". I had a boss that told everyone do not EVER assume!
This consultant they hired to do all this has definitely not done a good job!

Yea this is crazy!! They did not mentioned ANYTHING about and “extended” date going into 2027!!!!!! I think a lot of of us agreed on the premise that our end date would be on or around 9/4. Not 2027!!

@OP I am still trying to calm down with an exit date of May 14th. They outright lied to all of us!!! Decisions were made on a Sept. 4 date. I do not know what our options are legally but I have never heard of any company doing this. I do plan on being on the investor call tomorrow to see the spin on all of this BS. Centene is a complete disgrace.
