Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Nothing here is merit based

I’ve seen a lot of opportunity given to the same people who always seem to get it. It’s always funny how people are given positions for development, yet no one is able to apply to them because their might be someone more qualified in the ranks. It’s still a good ol boys club at the glass palace, except it’s less actual boys, and more college buddies or old friends from pas roles. Nothing here is merit based, it’s all a popularity contest and who likes or doesn’t like you, no matter the quality of your work. Pay is given randomly with no actual structure, which is why a new person can be making 15k more for doing the same job as the person who’s been doing it for 5 years. Smh

HDC leadership is Jumbo’s friend circle. Everyone is right nothing is merit based. If you are his friend exceptions will and are being made for you. Good luck to everyone else that works their as$ off to support his cl0wns. Don’t forget this is servant leadership. The servants serve the leadership.

Lets not forget corporate audit. These guys liken themselves to earthly gods. When in reality, the are the "stick" so the means are totally fine as long as it ends. If they were serious, theyd audit all the nepotism, conflict of interests and blantant salary disparities which among staff. While not violating any laws, up sure does run up the ethics scorecard.

This is UPRR in a nutshell. The blatant nepotism and buddy system is rampant. I could drop at least 100 names but it won't matter.

Up hr dept should be a case study of what happens when your internal watchdog succombs to politics and abandons ethics.

If i had a honorable hr degree and i participated in this sh-show, id burn it.

Definitely not the only one. I taught two people how to do their job. They were then promoted over me.

Totally agree. Human Resources is the worst offender and they are supposed to be the ones ensuring fairness and equal opportunity in the hiring process. Thanks Beth

Totally agree with post. I 've had people who were promoted instead of me then come ask me questions because they had no idea what they were doing. I m sure I m not the only one.

Don't be surprised by the "good ol boy" policy. It doesn't start with U.P. and it certainly doesn't end U.P. that garbage system is everywhere! Government contractors and military in general is pretty hard on the good ol boy system

I agree. Regardless of the hipster spin on it "networking" or not! It is without merit and often times egregious, how some people get promoted because they s--- up non-stop, I have witnessed in my 20 years the leadership roles become a joke, folks getting slotted in a position just as a stepping stone to go to the next level, no passion, I witnessed a senior that would show up at noon and leave about 1500. No cares., Also witnessed a senior with more time off then the FMLA folks, yet no one questions it, because they are from the same fraternity or joy club, it's all nonsense, back in the days. Promotions were earned through hard work and from the ground up, now it's just whoever your buds are

Some of the employees would argue that it's networking. Not that I agree with it.
