What would it take to make our union strong again?

I’d love to see some change on the floor

I don’t think everything is our representatives fault we have to take some accountability as well.

One of the things I don’t understand from our reps though is the gate keeping of our contract, I’ve heard a few times about refusal to get a copy of the contract.

We should all have the opportunity to get a copy so we can enforce the contract and hold management and each other accountable.

Strength only comes in numbers with a disagreement-strike. With those two ingredients creates an uncompromisable formula. Furthering along with an exceptional driven result and will resolved many future issues.

Well I have seen the aftermath of our union and companies breeding program. Two headed pack rats with a half faces. Part human and part rat. They scurry around me everyday. I sure wish I could relax but I need to continue to set rat traps to protect my myself and fellow employees.

The strike slate is coming to a hall near you! They will be the new thorn in the company’s side. We will be demanding pension reinstatement, elimination of the split pay scale, and a more union friendly health insurance plan. No if ands or buts our demands will be our future! The floor has to stand together no more rats, no more kissing ops leaders and cell leaders shoes. We are a union and will win a fair contract with 100% unity. No fakers no weak union workers no woke union. We are going to announce the slate soon! Check egos keep ideas under your hat don’t be buddy buddy with the non union side. They report everything up the food chain. That’s what ruins our chances if you tell non union anything tell them something off key to throw them off. Enforce the contract? Is the contract worth anything anymore? All the perks are gone all the holiday party’s at work gone. The contract is not worth the paper it’s written on it’s not even worth sipping after going to the bathroom with. Enforce the contract is what your dues are suppose to cover! The phrase you use Hold each other accountable is saying you want to be a rat.

Union is a big joke! Sad what was once a group with power turn in to a bunch of spineless and toothless minions of the company. What they pulled a short time ago by searching an area’s workers should have prompted a walkout by all in 273. They’ll give you all kinds of reasons from the company’s view. Their day will come!

There was a shop steward who carried more weight on his shoulders than anyone realized. He was a good steward and a good person who endured unimaginable loss. He turned the K&L bay around on all three shifts, and back then everyone knew it—people were disappointed and angry before he stepped in, and he fought every day to close the wage gap, improve health insurance, and push for better retirement. Fair and equal pay used to be the core of what the union stood for.

But every contract, more was taken away. The D-rates were treated like gold while the T-rates were treated like third-class citizens. With everything he was dealing with personally, it’s no surprise he acted the way he did. He masked the trauma well, but he still showed up and fought the fight with those scars.

He didn’t take a sever-ties package. He just needed a break. He resigned with a full month’s notice.

When hiring picked back up, I told him to reapply. He got an interview a few years ago, but it sank immediately. He interviewed with Nicole, and he said she clearly wasn’t happy he was even in the room—she just went through the motions. He knew right then he wasn’t getting back in.

I also spoke to HR—Nicole and Jason—before that interview. They told me directly that they would never let him back in. He was blackballed.

There is nothing “human” about a Human Resources department that treats people this way. They’ve always been against the union, and this is just one more example.

@js Yeah it was a perfect storm to vote that contract down we had a lot of leverage we just pi---d away, but instead we took the first offer.

There used to be a shop steward who was steady, calm, and genuinely committed to the job. Then his life was hit with two devastating tragedies: first his mother was ki-led, and not long after, his 15-year-old daughter was ki-led. Even through that grief, he continued to show up and fight for the members.

During the 2017–2018 layoffs, he finally resigned. He was dealing with overwhelming loss and felt stuck in a cycle he couldn’t break. His therapist suggested that stepping away for a while might help him move forward after the two tragedies that happened just a year and a half apart.

When hiring picked back up, he reapplied. He interviewed with the cell leader, who was highly impressed with him and specifically needed someone with his experience in the bar shop. Despite that strong recommendation and his proven track record as a go‑getter who always went 100% for the union, HR still blackballed him.

No second chance, no acknowledgment of what he had been through—just a closed door.

He’s a good man with a good heart who endured unimaginable loss. And now he’s permanently shut out by HR. A real example of how even the strongest union supporters can be written off for reasons that have nothing to do with their work.

Contract book won’t help because most of the people they hire have no brains or skill set. Also when the big cuts come it will be worthless but go to HR and ask for contract books. They are supposed to have one for every employee.

We should not be holding each other accountable if we are a union! But we are not!

Although we should hold Managment accountable for contract violations, and past practices. HR should have contract books for every union employee.

Regime change if you will. The only way to change things is to get rid of irrelevant union, incompetent management and unreliable clown employees both t rates and d rates. Replace them with nothing. Damage has been done already it is beyond repair. The workplace environment is utterly toxic garbage total failure.

A strike, or everyone boycott overtime. Stand together rise up together. That might change the tone of managment and HR games. To many fake people here in Schenectady to attempt to make a stand.

Don’t bother the contract is a crushing blow to the union and it has been. Because no one will vote no to the contract. Post 2011 contract employees were starting out a few more dollars than McDonalds workers working next to people making $10+ more an hour at top rate for same job code. The union was broken and sold out. Anyone who brought the fight to the company side gets black balled.
