Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Why such a long timeline

Why would Centene want to keep any VSP applicant (approved or denied) until Sept 1. And then the layoffs August 1, would they work to 9/1? That’s a lot for any company to take at one time (not that I care). People leaving (voluntarily) and others laid off (fired), only leaves those staying (those doing the actual work) with extremely low moral. For those that want to leave let them go as soon as they wish. Work out for both parties. Those forced to leave let them coordinate a date with their PL. Give them a break. Don’t make them work to 9/1. Prospective new employers can’t wait that long. Don’t let them miss these opportunities. I know Centene doesn’t care and that is sad, very sad. Karma.

@ae just a scare tactic. Managers have discretion and they have vsp eligibility
They are trying to save themselves as well. Corp vs humans.

@a3 No one cares if someone being RIFed is productive in the last 30 days. That time period is just to allow for some semblance of a orderly transition, gives people a full 30 days of paid health insurance, and helps the "survivors" and managers feel a little less guilty.

@a3 that’s the point. If you’re not productive, you don’t get the vsp. They can rescind it if your not meeting productivity etc.

I’d imagine several reasons. It allows them to deal with the WARN act, allows for training and work pass off, plus wiggle room for benefits. If you applied for VSP, you won’t know until the second week of July. That gives you 6 weeks to find a new position if you are truly done September 1. That is a tight time frame already. If it’s similar to RIFs I’ve been aware of in the past, people in the “notification” period are given leeway to apply for other jobs during working hours and go to job placement activities. Just have to wait and see. But generally, don’t expect VSP approved or RIFs to continue to work their full position.

Hoping for sooner than later that my VSP is approved and they let me walk. No hard feelings. It’s not personal, it’s business!

in this current job market, getting a job offer by the middle of August is a reach. the interview process alone can take weeks and that's if you're even called in to interview.

I imagine that 9/1 is an estimate and the longest they anticipate on keeping people. my thoughts are the ones leaving may need to cross-train those of us staying depending on the job function. if you are not needed, and saving money is absolutely critical, prepare to be let go sooner rather than later.

if I were accepted for the VSP, I would just pocket and save whatever money is coming my way until my official last day. search and apply for jobs on company time. network. do what you need to do.

none of us know how long it is going to take to receive the severance. the paperwork states as soon as administratively possible... between those of us staying and those receiving lump sums of severance, that's a lot of money that has to be cleared by payroll at the same time. I anticipate severance will be done in waves.

I agree. No clue why they would do that. I’m sure people won’t be very productive during that time period.
