About Elevance Health (Anthem):: Elevance Health Inc. is a large health insurance company founded in the 1940s. Before 2022, it operated under the name Anthem, and prior to 2014, it was known as WellPoint, Inc. It is the largest for-profit managed healthcare company in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's family of companies. The company was formed when Anthem Insurance Company acquired WellPoint Health Networks, Inc., with the newly formed entity adopting the name WellPoint, Inc. Trading on the NYSE for the combined company began under the WLP symbol on 12/1/2004. On December 3, 2014, WellPoint changed its corporate name to Anthem Inc., and its NYSE ticker changed from WLP to ANTM. Another name change followed in June 2022, when Anthem Inc. changed its name to Elevance Health, Inc. (the stock ticker was changed from ANTM to ELV).
