Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

You guys don’t read anything

Idk why no one read or listened to the “London Calling” episode…. VSP offers expire 7/1. They’ll base the number of the layoff based on how many people took VSP’s. Everyone who is gonna be laid off will be notified by the beginning of August. Emails with offers are going to most everyone, you’ll get an email at some point today. It’s in waves. If you’re already having a foot out the door, take the offer and ready to move on from Centene, take the offer.

@a5 You are incorrect. New hires are not safe from layoffs. They just do not have the required tenure to qualify for VSP.

My last name starts with a W and I got my letter this morning. I'm curious if anyone knows if it would be a first come situation...If I accept the VSP, do I have a better chance of being accepted then if I were to accept on Jul 1?

@ar wrong - it’s taxed as income, not as a bonus

@OP Wow. Well, you're being a je-k—and that's the nicest way I can put it on this platform. What an incredibly dismissive response. I sincerely hope you're not in a leadership position, because if this exchange is any indication of how you treat people, those reporting to you have my sympathy. Unfortunately, the tone of your comment suggests you probably are a leader, which is concerning. Leadership requires professionalism, respect, and emotional maturity, none of which are reflected in your response. You've demonstrated exactly the kind of temperament that undermines effective leadership.

@a5 you are totally wrong. If you don’t qualify you have been here u def 2 years. You will still be on the chopping block.

@af this is also partially incorrect. In some states you can absolutely still collect unemployment while being offered severance. I happen to live in one of those States myself

@am according to one user. This is not fear mongering. This is preparation. two years ago they laid off $2,500 people in Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4. HR leaked it to the press and they brought it to our attention in August of 2024. What we do is the lack of transparency. The percentage of layoffs according to one user may be high, but the point established, it may not be a bad idea to prepare, is a valid point and a responsible point.

@ak 30-40% is outrageous and is simply fear mongering at this point

If you have been with the company for less than two years from this coming September, you will not qualify for the VSP.

If you receive the VSP e-mail, this does not guarantee that you will be approved. It further does not guarantee, that if you are not approved, that you are safe from termination coming August and September.

If you qualify for the VSP, you will still need to pay taxes on the monetary agreement.

Centene, according to one user is planning to lay off 30% to 40% of its workforce by September.

The layoff is due to Simplify. Simplify is not an adjective. It is a noun. It is an AI tool that can do our job, Provider Relations and Contract Renewals, HR Recruitment, etc.

If you receive the letter, it does not hurt to see if you are eligible. The buy out depending on your salary and how long you have been here has been marked in between $42k - $48k.

If you are not eligible and if you are eligible, it may not be a bad idea to start looking for another job. It does not mean you have to take any offers, but it keeps food on the table and a roof over your head. Preparation is key. Two years, they attempted to do this under the radar. Today, they are being forthcoming. Prepare yourself.

@a9 yes but you have to remember the large % they will take for taxes! 49k isn’t much after taxes.

@a1 the first people to get them on my team were separate letter of their last name from each other. It might be by CN number though?

People who have been there less than 2 years won’t have the option of VSP

You literally just said exactly what I said: "That does not guarantee that their jobs are safe."

Exactly. No one's jobs are safe, whether they got the VSP email or they did not. This is a VOLUNTARY separation plan. They're being nice right now and offering a VOLUNTARY option to leave the company with severance. Because they need to cut staff. But the don't want to pay a bunch of people unemployment. This is cheaper for them as an initial option.

And actually, I have been in this situation before. Welcome to managed care.

@a5 clearly you have never been in this situation. The VSP goes to all eligible employees except for brand new employees and super senior people. However that does not guarantee that their jobs are safe. Hcsc did this several years ago and there were plenty of people who did not take the VSP at that time. They later on ended up getting cut during layoffs when they completely flatten to the organization.

Stop fear-mongering as this is not the time or the place. We only need straight facts here so that way people can make informed decisions. Also if people actually read the agreement just because you apply for VSP does not guarantee that you will be picked to be cut.

@a5 wrong. People who don’t qualify; don’t get them and that doesn’t mean they are safe. There are teams training their replacements right now. Some folks that don’t even qualify for VSP.

@a5 That's what a VSP offer inherently means. It's to get rid of as many staff as possible, in the easiest and least costly manner, to reduce the number of staff they have to layoff later. If not enough people take the VSP offers, they will have to layoff a greater number of staff later.

@a2 you’re incorrect. People that don’t get the VSP are not at risk of layoff. Of no letter your job is bot being eliminated. Why would it make sense for some to get the buy out and others don’t and still get let go.

@a2 yes! I’m actually choosing to view it as a good thing, layoffs were inevitable this year

I don't think everyone understands what this actually means... just because you don't get a VSP offer, or if you do get a VSP offer and decide not to accept, doesn't mean you're off the hook in August. You can still totally be laid off. This is literally being used to weed people out so they don't have to lay off as many staff out of the gate.
