I saw a few of my colleagues today, and today specifically, get promoted to “Senior DT”. Wouldn’t the next natural step be Fellow? Is this a ridiculous attempt to make non-Senior DTs from questioning why they haven’t been promoted to Fellow? “We can’t promote you to Fellow so here’s an arbitrary next step so that you can see how we’re trying to prevent you from quitting. You’re still under appreciated but now we’re just lying to you.”
Kind of nonsense.
This used to be a place people wanted to work. Good projects, good reputation, and good future. But now it has turned into a dead end for so many people. Nobody expects to grow or learn or advance here anymore. When did we turn into that kind of place?
I have seen this happen to several people I work with. They are so good at what they do that management refuses to move them up because filling their current role would be too hard AND they make them look good. They're basically being punished for being competent.
Doesn't seem like you can climb the ladder here in any meaningful way. Your only option is to quit and find somewhere else to work if you want to grow your career. Am I wrong or is it dependent on BU?

Does anyone know what CL chiefs are? Is it the pinnacle of the technical ladder?
Got a promo and a new career level, not sure if that maps to anything (Salary range/ VC target range, etc)
How long did it take you to move from CL28 to 29? How much of a pay increase did you see when promoted?
Our group is going through a re-org and will re-level jobs accordingly. Does bonus change or can you carry all your current comp with you?
