No layoffs but budget cuts

Our area was told to come up with a plan to show that we can save at lease 12% this year compared to last year. No more hiring for us. No more external consultants. Travel is almost non-existent after Sapphire. And we are asked to find ways to bring the costs down. There is negotiation going on regarding reducing some company benefits. And we have been asked to get more work done with the same employees. While this may be good news for many that we don't have layoffs, it is still bad news because we will have less worker protections and our benefits will get cut. And for sure employees will be overwhelmed with too much work. When this happens, you can expect the "performance" of all employees to go down and also their appraisals for next year. Welcome to recession at SAP I guess. As a company, our financials are strong but instead of investing in employees we are investing in... AI that customers do not want to pay more for and in... bonuses for group executives and the executive board. I hate this company.

ExxonMobil said it would slash planned spending on low-carbon projects by a third, as oil majors pare back clean energy initiatives and pivot back to fossil fuels.

The Texas-based company, the largest US oil producer, also said in a strategic update on Tuesday that it planned to lift earnings and cash flow by $5bn by 2030, with no increases in capital spending.

Exxon said spending on low-carbon initiatives would be cut to $20bn over the next five years, down from about $30bn previously. The company also recently paused plans for a $7bn hydrogen plant in Baytown, Texas, citing low customer demand.

Some of the world’s biggest oil and gas companies are pulling back from low-carbon projects and returning their focus to fossil fuels, amid expectations that oil demand will remain more resilient and that the green transition will take longer than anticipated.

President Donald Trump has made the promise of abundant, cheap oil and gas a key pillar of his second term and pledged to “export American energy all over the world”.

UK oil major BP in February reversed its push into clean energy to refocus on fossil fuels, with chief executive Murray Auchincloss saying the company went “too far, too fast”. It also shelved plans for its hydrogen and carbon capture scheme in north-east England.

Shell also scrapped a 2021 commitment to let oil output fall by 1 per cent to 2 per cent a year until 2030 and wrote down the value of its $1bn wind business. However, other companies such as TotalEnergies have continued to invest in their renewables arms.

The interior department will on Wednesday hold a lease sale for 80mn acres in the US Gulf, as mandated by Trump’s signature tax and spending bill, which analysts at TD Cowen expect to attract interest from Shell, BP and Chevron.

Exxon has four upcoming sites in Guyana due to start production by 2030, as well as final investment decisions on natural gas projects in Papua New Guinea and Mozambique.

Exxon’s chief executive Darren Woods told the Financial Times last month that assumptions the company made when setting its previous goals for spending on low-carbon projects had not been met, blaming disappointing customer demand and government policies.

Exxon on Tuesday said it expected $25bn in earnings growth and $35bn in cash flow growth by 2030 compared with 2024 on the same constant-price and margin basis, a $5bn improvement on its previous plan.

This reflected the company’s “stronger contributions from advantaged assets, a more profitable business mix and lower operating costs”, Exxon said.

The company also announced its chief financial officer, Kathy Mikells, will retire from February 2026 and be replaced by Neil Hansen, Exxon’s president of global business solutions.

Get ready (yes again!)

Well, it's almost that time again.... Seems that more folks are on the bench than ever. With the recent departs of the wh-z-bank_no_bang_CAP_cant_hit_numbers crew (they were forced out cause they couldn't hit numbers Y/Y endlessly nor optimize TEAMMATE resource stats) seems that the list making time has come once again.

Best option from the CFO_MOUSE_MODE clown is to: reduce expenses, lay people off and coach Britanucus_Nothingness into how to tell the street that things are really on the up and up when in reality it is all about cutting costs to hit a number.

Well since the market analysts really have lowered expectations, like really lowered the price target the only thing left to do it is to back into a number then divide by the average headcount cost to figure out how many people to cut. All in hopes and aspiration that they will appease investors (of which there are a lot less these days). Hey, let's start with all those expensive CAP_CLOWNS that were a bunch of talk, ruined even more the woke_A$$ culture and took this company to town, like over and over again. Someone has to make room for the washed up Accenture dudes waiting in the wings to be summoned to Chandler for a DREAMY_DREAM_DREAM_JOB with some of the deserts best and brightest.

Also maybe take out Kane and SolyentGreen to save some $$$$ as well, since neither of them amount to much.

What does the class think of all that? TEAM TEAM TEAM team?

ARR that STAT!

Sarasota County Public Schools Cut Staff Due to Budget Deficit

Sarasota County Schools district faces a significant budget deficit. This deficit will result in 180 first-year teachers and support staff losing their jobs. Florida ranks 50th nationally for average teacher pay and near the bottom for per-student funding. Increased state voucher funding diverts money from public school budgets. Declining enrollment, partly due to students leaving for private schools, exacerbates the financial issues.

the local poeple seem to carry the place. corporate sounds useless. they point fingers and dont support anyone. that kind of rot spreads fast.

pay is mid. people are ok. i'd say this is not a healty company. it's in decline.

the offshoring happens and jobs are shipped oversas and that means jobs lost/budget cuts. more preasure. less care.

good coworkers can only hide so much. good mid managers can only do so much. if corprate is broken, everything under it gets dragged down.

April 10th: Walmart Layoff Projections

Here’s our estimates on Walmart layoff activity for the next several months based on data we’ve collected. Some dates are specific and some are general. That’s due to business intelligence that either stands out, or, doesn’t stand out.

Here’s some facts that drive our estimates this time:

  • April through August are traditionally high layoff times for Walmart
  • Imbedded quiet days in April/May to allow for Q1 End, Q1 Reporting and Memorial Day.
  • Project and budget reviews reveal considerable expense and capital saving opportunities do exist
  • New capital projects to support AI are under consideration, including some eye popping infrastructure projects. All these projects will need to be funded
  • There’s a considerable amount of tech outsourcing available (at favorable rates) to assume and run current systems
  • Renewed focus on removing shadow IT projects and resources across the enterprise

Here’s our take on dates:

  • [ ] 4/13 thru 4/28 increases to 70% likelihood of layoffs
  • [ ] 5/6 thru 6/25 100% likelihood
  • [ ] 6/30 thru 7/28 90% likelihood
  • [ ] 8/4 thru 8/27 90% likelihood

Don’t agree? Tell us why.

Ontario Settlement Agencies Face Deep Federal Funding Cuts

Federal budget cuts are significantly reducing funding for immigrant settlement services in Ontario. These reductions are forcing agencies to cut programs and lay off staff. The Immigrants Working Centre in Hamilton already laid off six staff and faces more cuts. YWCA Toronto is closing childminding services and laid off four permanent staff. Agencies warn these cuts destabilize a system built over decades and will hurt communities.
