"We're realigning our workforce to better meet market demands"

It's going to be such or similar phase to justify leaving many people without their livelihoods at the time when the job market is at its worst and prices are skyrocketing. What a cr-ppy way to treat loyal employees who've left many, many years at this place.

Western College Reduces Workforce by 10%

Western Wyoming Community College recently announced significant staff reductions. The college is dissolving or restructuring 63 positions. This action is part of a budget realignment plan. It aims to address reduced property tax revenue and reliance on college reserves. Overall, 33 fewer positions will exist next fiscal year. Shedding institutional knowledge

Why does the leadership keep doing this? What's being achieved? We lost two of our most valuable team members today. I've only been here for four years, they both had 15+ years with the company. I don't understand how you just decide to get rid of people who are so important for the future of the company.

I won't miss the chaos

Layoffs are bad, but the weeks and in some cases months leading up to them are pure chaos. It's the time when stabbing coworkers in the back is almost the norm, as if that'd help save somebody. Few people are actually working and most are speculating on what's about to happen. Productivity, morale, everything is down. I'll be happy for that to be over.

Union Pacific Cuts Green River Rail Repair Jobs

Union Pacific Railroad recently laid off multiple carmen in Green River. The company also closed its Green River repair shop for heavy repairs. Union Pacific stated these changes enhance freight fluidity across its network. Light repairs and inspections will continue at the Green River location. A former union director expressed serious safety concerns regarding these staffing reductions.

Union Pacific Layoffs Raise Wyoming Rail Safety Concerns

Union Pacific recently eliminated 17 carmen positions at its Green River station. This action is part of broader workforce reductions across the railroad industry. Former legislator Stan Blake warns that fewer human inspectors and more automation could increase train accidents. Railroad companies seek waivers to reduce human track inspections, citing technology benefits. However, labor groups argue automated systems cannot fully replace human detection of critical defects.

Layoffs in motion — is this just the beginning?

This isn’t speculation anymore — layoffs are happening, and India seems to be in the middle of it right now (likely continuing through the week). From what I’m hearing, this is part of a broader org restructuring with global impact. The numbers being discussed are all over the place — anywhere between ~4% to 10% workforce reduction. Some estimates suggest ~1,000 roles, while others go as high as 4,000.

What’s less clear — and more concerning:

Are there additional waves planned in the coming months?

Is this happening ahead of a new CEO transition ?

There are also whispers about another significant round around June — any truth to that?
Would be really helpful to hear from folks across orgs/locations:
What’s the ground reality right now?
Are teams being given any forward visibility?
Is this a one-time correction or a longer restructuring cycle?
Feels like there’s more beneath the surface here — trying to piece together what’s actually coming next.

Layoff running totals based on Slack

Tracking participants count #general Slack channel in Oracle One workspace, as the fastest available proxy indication of ongoing layoffs.

  • mar01-mar23: 573 layoffs, and 715 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • feb01-feb28: 943 layoffs, and 1143 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • jan01-jan31: 1604 layoffs, and 1834 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • dec01-dec31: 1031 layoffs, and 844 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • nov01-nov30: 1614 layoffs, and 1327 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • oct01-oct31: 2504 layoffs, 1762 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • sep02-sep30: 6275 layoffs, 861 additions (based on Slack regular tracking)
  • aug14-sep01: 733 layoffs (based on Slack very few data points)
  • aug01-aug14: ?2900 layoffs in IDC (based on media reports)

Regions outside IDC and NA usually have a significant delay when laid off people are disconnected from Slack (e.g. 1 month in Pacific regions, perhaps longer in some EU countries), so this is a floor estimate with additions reflected immediately, but reductions lagging behind on average.

Layoff estimates are partially part of normal attrition, but the other part of normal attrition is already hidden due to additions and removals compensate each other when they happen at the same period of time.

I will post daily in comments (if admin stops deleting my posts and comments) on the count change and running current month total while this post is still on the first page.

A FAILED COMPANY

Throughout Gail's reign of te---r, she has brought this company to a new low. It's true that all the major healthcare companies are cr-p these days, but Elephants Health has trampled on its people far more than any other I've heard. They care NOTHING for you, no matter what position you're in. All they care about is making the shareholders and Queen Gail rich. If you're not planning to already, get out or retire if you can, ASAP! You may already be on the "list" and don't even know it.

"We're not on a hiring freeze"

What an absolute lawyer type statement and I'll say it - it's a lie. We are on a hiring freeze and you know it. Be sure to add that little part about contractors too. Counting that one grain of salt on a beach and saying the beach is made of salt is what you and the rest of the clown show are doing. One req here and there for an EIC or sales person doesn't move the needle forward.

Startup Model for a "Fortune 500"

Welcome to Xerox, where we tout our Fortune 500 status (likely will fall pretty soon) while changing and adding new systems for our sales teams without sufficient training, no change in expectations, increasing the pressure, disincentivizing big sales, and not fixing the things that still don't work beforehand.

Should we fix the poor Hubspot integration before adding a totally new frontend? Nah! You'll be fine! Should we fix our client facing websites and services before changing demanding higher volume of sales? Nah! You just need to execute "faster". And the list goes ON and ON. Oh, and let's dissolve the sales training leaders while we're at it so new hires are at the mercy of the sales team they are joining, thus becoming a burden.

I now have 10X more responsibility I had before without 10X the pay. Once I get my next job, I am OUT of here. I wish everyone the best.

Fuel Cost, The Environment, or RTO...

Which of these does AT&T actually care about?

Silly question, we already know. Sure, fuel is expensive but people are even more expensive. Think about this, one mediocre L2 PM can cost the company upwards of $200k. That's 40,000 gallons of fuel necessary to keep our fiber team doing the only thing we can do to make money.

If the federal government were to issue an emergency order requiring companies to reduce road and air travel by 1/3rd in exchange for other tax incentives, you can bet you're behind AT&T would jump on board. Remember, Stankey's AT&T is all about the dividends. 100% RTO and relo are severance-free layoffs. Fewer employees = more free cash = better dividends.

States have spent billions on trying to keep drivers off the roads. Companies like AT&T could not care less. The environment is only an issue when it is trending. Just think, in the DFW metroplex, we have millions of cars on our roads every day. A 30 mile trip in your car produces upwards of 25 pounds of CO2 gas. So, 1,000,000 cars produce 25 Million lbs of CO2 gas, every 30 miles! Think AT&T gives a shot? Nope. There's no money in it. They are like little parrots saying "return to work, return to work, return to work"

So, we can complain or we can find other jobs. And, despite the loser narrative, there are jobs. Its just that working at AT&T is bad for business. We aren't exactly in the 'highly sought after' category. Fact is, AT&T loses a lot of smart people every day. Smart people find jobs. Most of us, however, stay because this is an easy ride for ridiculous $$$. We all know it, so let's be honest. Who here actually works a solid 20 hours a week? Do you really think AT&T doesn't know that they have created a company of slackers?

Fuel Cost, Pollution, or Lazy Employees working from home; which one do you think AT&T cares most about?

BNSF attempting to give up all yards in Texas

BNSF completing RJ Corman take over of Galveston yard, with RJ Corman having bids in for Casey, Silsbee, and the potential for Houston and Sweetwater in the next year. Misconception being applied that RJ Corman can not operate on main line or take over yard protected by Beltway agreement, but BNSF is negotiating for yards with a mainline going through yard to receive FRA waiver to operate short line within switching limits and not terminal limits, which extend into mainline while still qualifying as switching limits, TY&E employees be aware, your union officers are in fact present and taking part in these negotiations above the local level, with no intention to stop or protect agreement rights as many are on the cusp of retirement, and looking to ease out the door with no effect to them.
