HIH Clueless About Layoffs

Band 4 manager here. I’ve lost a lot of talent over the past year due to RIF. As ops has moved over to HIH there’s a whole team over there doing stuff we deal with. Their manager pulled me into a meeting to say his employees were complaining about mine. Mainly that we are slow to respond, and that my team isn’t “nice.”

I asked for specifics and if anyone was unprofessional or outright rude. Turned out the HIH team doesn’t like that my team is direct, asks them to repeat when they don’t understand due to language or the ask is unclear, takes initiative, and basically does stuff fast without explanation because we don’t have time and have too much to do.

More discussion led to him asking me to have my team slow down and be more “pleasant” and to engage in back and forth rather than just getting to the point. I told him my team complains that they get pinged with just “hi” and won’t respond unless there is something actionable too. He asked for us to spend more time helping his team with their work so the can learn and get better and that my team has told his they don’t have time. I agreed. And I said as long as they are being professional, I can’t expect more from them because they are watching their friends and coworkers lose jobs that are being given to HIH.

HIH manager was very surprised and didn’t realize that what was going on. I said as long as we meet SLA then that’s that and I don’t expect my team to respond same day for anything that isn’t a managed incident.

Anyone at HIH on this forum, be glad we are interacting with you professionally. I’ve had team members express downright hatred for HIH. Nothing against you personally, but Cigna is firing us to give you jobs, so don’t expect friendliness.

None of this is sustainable. I’ve told my Director to put me on the layoff list. When I have to bite my tongue to avoid yelling at HIH, and I get no answers from above other than more RIF is coming but my team is okay because we are 20:80, I can’t do it anymore.

Verizon EMEA VBG/GN&T dumpster fire

Even before this week's annoucement, I could tell this organization was one of the most poorly structured "too many chefs" places I will ever worked at. Now we're in a position where Security Sales doesn't know what to sell or if there will be anyone around to deliver, and you have band 5s in the US still saying "EMEA is BAU" and that we still need to find ways to "continue as normal and building the best case for the value of our PS cyber work". so in other words sell / deliver while you can and when it's time we will RIF you all to purgatory and get hcltech to deliver whats left. how the f--k am I expected to work thinking this?

The gaslighting is getting hard to ignore

After 20+ years at Verizon, I’ve never seen morale this low or trust in leadership this broken.

Yesterday’s EMEA call was a brutal reminder of where things really stand. Yet today we’re all expected to log in, smile on calls, and carry on as if nothing happened.

What makes it worse is the constant stream of polished messaging from management and our Exec team that feels completely disconnected from reality. We’re told everything is about “transformation,” “strategy,” and “opportunities,” while RIFs happen all the time and the remaining staff are expected to absorb the work.

I feel like we’re being gaslighted.

Everyone knows AI is coming and it will fundamentally change large parts of the workforce and remove even more jobs at a rate much higher than we've known before. Employees aren’t stupid. Most of us have decades of experience and can see exactly what’s happening.

What’s astonishing is the apparent belief from leadership that the workforce will just nod along and accept whatever narrative is being presented.

After more than two decades here, I’ve never seen this level of distrust between employees and leadership. People can deal with tough decisions and difficult change. What they struggle with is the feeling that the truth is being managed rather than communicated.

Right now, the biggest gap in this company isn’t technology or strategy. It’s credibility.

Post-RIF Ramble (get out while you can)

On November 20, I was devastated. 100+ days later, I am far better. You can be too. I just started a new, great job in a whole new-to-me industry but where my talents are magnified. Hindsight is truly 20/20 - there were plenty of good things about working at Verizon, but the red tape and the lying to themselves and the constant frantic work — and for what?? — it’s not like that elsewhere and my god, why did we wait so long. I’m grateful for my big fat severance and vacation day payout and STI, and now I have a new job where I feel, dare I say, better. ALL OF YOU STILL AT VZ, I can’t tell you enough - GET OUT. THERE IS LIFE OUTSIDE VERIZON. I drank the koolaid for so long and my goodness, the veil has been lifted after my RIF. Why was I so sad in November?

Is this legal?

My role was eliminated in the last RIF wave with a term date of 2/6. I was told it was due to cost pressures and not performance as I have always had high performance ratings but did unfortunately need a couple medical leaves last year. However, LESS than 20 calendar days later, my exact role was posted internally at one grade level lower. I still had my work laptop in my possession and hadn't received my severance check. The role is now posted externally. Is this even legal? I'm wondering if I have a case to call employee relations due to retaliation.

Please be kind in your responses, this is traumatic enough.

Reminder email from HR,even after Docusign completed

I got Riffed recently, few days ago completed the docuSign, surprisingly today got a reminder email from HR mentioning that they sent the DocuSign, and there's an expiry date hence I should complete and send it within due date. Did anyone experience the same (after completing the docusign getting a reminder email)..anything need to be done in this case?

Layoffs 2026 - Mid April

My boss just told me that he was asked to rack and stack his people. Seems that mid-April we will have a RIF.

He said this is going to be a big one. He was also asked about people over 50 in our group. Seems that the old folks are going to shoulder the brunt of this one.

He also shared that this will be both a salary and an hourly reduction.

ISNP

Well between RIF and worse strategic attempts to get people to quit with case loads being unreasonable ir putting people in work plans the oregon and WA teams are about dead and gone.

DCO is a soulless id--t. CSMs are pale images of what they had been in past, all the talent and integrity leadership is gone.
At least competitors are coming in

This will be massive and broad reaching - How to tell if you're getting RIF'd.

Keep an eye out for a "Important Business Update" appointment scheduled in your calendar on a Monday or Wednesday Evening. If you see that, you will be RIF'd the following morning. Your computer is locked almost immediately after you are notified, so if you have stuff you want on it, disconnect it from WIFI so you can pull off any personal data. To figure out who else on your team is also impacted, try scheduling a meeting with your boss, and all your teammates that day with your calendar tool. That will give you an overlay of availability. Anyone else with 15 minute slots that overlap with your boss's calendar are getting RIF'd that day too. This will be Oracle's largest RIF yet, they are starving for cash and the easiest way to fix that is by reducing headcount - 8% reduction is likely.

Please post if you got “The RIF”

I wish more people knew about this site and would post if they got the RIF or if they knew someone who got the RIF.
It would be nice to know what L3Harris shenanigans are going on.
Plus, I might know where they could find new employment at; as an example I know for a fact that LM is hiring for Maritime in Riviera Beach. FL, just down the coast from here.

Just rip off the band-aid

Medicare UM has been hobbling along, with not enough work, since early January. Upper management says that a "strategic decision" was made to pull out of some "overly costly markets", with an expected 22% reduction in membership. It does not take rocket science to understand that if you reduce membership by 22%, you will need 22% less staff, not including cuts for automation.
We all know the RIFs are coming. What are they waiting on? Just put us out of our misery so we can figure out what we are doing with our lives.

Breaking news

Breaking news — all divisions have been told to submit their RIF lists within one week only. Mainly they are targeting poor performers, those difficult employees and also the highest paid people in high cost locales. This latest global round will be executed sometime next month.Be prepared.

Software is done for

L3H software personnel are going to have a RIF and be replaced by AI by the end of 2026.
Take the warning and do something to secure yourself and your financial future, be that move to a better company, vote the union in, or whatever other steps you can take and do this immediately.
