March 2026 rinse and repeat

Anyone else freaking out after a year without an offer?

I was laid off this time last year. I was with Dell in various sales roles for 20 years right out of college. I became an adult and professional with Dell. What I’m learning is my Dell skill set isn’t seen as that well trained or valuable to many other companies. Maybe it’s a bit of age discrimination as well, but surely being early 40s doesn’t mean I’m already retired from any tech job does it? I don’t know. I’ve been doing gig work to survive, but I used to have a real career, decent pay, benefits, savings, retirement, travel, dignity… feels like I’m worse than back to square one now. I feel like I’m going to lose everything I’ve spent two decades building in my life because I can’t find another job like what I had at the only job I’ve ever really known. I used to be the guy that had enough to help friends when they were hitting rough patches, now I’m the one always asking for favors. Sorry, just having a panic attack in the middle of the night because of all of this. I’ve applied to hundreds of places, even outside of tech in other sales fields, and I feel like I do great in the multiple rounds of interviews, just to get rejected or even worse, absolute crickets. I can’t go entry level in another totally different field because I’m either seen as too old to be an apprentice, or too over qualified (they feel) for an entry level thing. So how do I start over then?! I also have other friends and former coworkers that have been recently laid off, so now I feel like I’m competing with them for a role. It’s all so frustrating and frankly scary. Make it make sense. I just want to work again.

Chaos, confusion, and a corporate bingo card

Fresh off the all-hands meeting, where leadership proudly told us everything is “record-breaking, absolutely historic, folks”, the company rolled out a restructuring plan so wild it should come with a safety label.

They’re desperately trying to fix what even duct tape, prayer, and three consultants named Kramshi, Vamshi and Bamshi couldn’t fix. And then, of course, the master stroke: shifting jobs to India because someone read a PowerPoint that said “globalization = savings” in big sparkly letters. Brilliant! Truly next-level thinking. Never mind that they understand the local culture about as well as they understand their own product roadmap. They probably think the caste system is just an optional settings menu you can turn off. Brilliant!

I’m sure nothing says “operational excellence” like replacing entire teams overnight and hoping the universe sorts it out. Really incredible work, if the goal is chaos, confusion, and a corporate bingo card full of terrible ideas.

Tremendous work! S'more Popcorn Please!

Just to lighten the mood...

(To the tune of: Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys)

Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to work for Big Red Don't let 'em pick networks or chase that 5G Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to work for VZ They'll never be home, and they'll always be stressed Even if they give you their all, they'll just cut you to be "lean"

(Verse 1) He'd bleed red and black, wore the polo with pride Believed in the network, felt good deep inside He missed kids' ballgames for "critical work" Now he's a "cost transformation," a shareholder perk.

(Chorus) 'Cause they'll get a new CEO from PayPal, you see Who talks about "culture" and "scrappy" He'll take a fifty-million-dollar bonus and then Cut fifteen thousand people just before the holidays again.

(Verse 2) He heard all the rumors, the "critical inflection" The talk about "synergy" and "cost correction" Then the call came on Thursday, "November the 20th" "We're making you 'leaner'," just a number, not a person.

(Chorus) 'Cause they'll get a new CEO from PayPal, you see Who talks about "culture" and "scrappy" He'll take a fifty-million-dollar bonus and then Cut fifteen thousand people just before the holidays again.

(Bridge) They'll say you're all "family" when they want your long hours But you're just a line item when they're in the glass towers They're losin' subscribers, so you'll pay the steep price While Dan Schulman's bonus is lookin' real nice.

(Verse 3) So Mammas, go tell 'em before they sign on That loyalty's a one-way street, and then it is gone They don't care about you, just the stock and the churn It's a "Home for the Holidays" lesson you'll learn.

(Outro Chorus) Yeah, they'll get a new CEO from PayPal, you see Who talks about "culture" and "scrappy" He'll take a fifty-million-dollar bonus and then Cut fifteen thousand people just before the holidays again.

Depressed , anxious , sleep deprived

Anyone else here feeling like this ? Just tell me already if I’m jobless. I got so much debt that the severance wouldn’t be enough. I’m SCARED. If I make it this round , once frontier deal is complete that just means more layoffs. A lot of Frontier and Verizon engineers would just overlap jobs so that means MORE CUTS

Don't get sick or get old

If you get sick or a family member gets sick you will be moved to the top of the layoff list.

HIPPA protects your medical history but not your medical/insurance costs. The company has access to that data and will use it to prioritize people for layoffs.

If you get old, your insurance costs will go up, and you will be selected for a layoff.

Don't get sick or get old.

No layoffs for now

Santa Barbara County is aiming to avoid layoffs and focus on budget cuts instead, despite budget shortfalls in two departments.

Social Services will eliminate 58 unfilled roles, and County Health announced it has stopped transferring undocumented patients

Finally landed a new job

After how everything was handled during layoffs, I spent every available minute looking for something else. After they kept us in the dark and acted like we were disposable, I knew my time here was done. Now I can finally move on and I’m not going to be looking back.

I have yet to see any effects of the layoffs or reshuffling

What I don’t see is Nike ever reaching the heights of its old glory again. I actually used to enjoy working here. Now it just feels like any other random job that could vanish at any moment, and I wouldn't even care. You can’t be invested when leadership isn’t, and you can’t feel like part of a team when there’s no team left. We’ve become bland, and cutting people seems to be the only strategy they have to stay afloat.

It’s hard to embrace being disposable

Look I’m not even mad anymore. just tired... Every week it’s another round of whispers about realignments and optimization, and we all know what that means. People disappear from the org chart, managers act like it’s business as usual... and everyone else pretends not to notice while secretly refreshing job boards. What’s wild is how leadership keeps calling this progress. They hold some all hands to talk about leaner operations like we’re supposed to clap for losing our coworkers. Then they tell us to stay positive and embrace the change. I’d love to, but it’s kinda hard to embrace being disposable.... and don’t even start with the we’re one team stuff. One team doesn’t keep cutting off its own legs. One team doesn’t keep asking people to train their replacements. You can call it efficiency all you want, but what it feels like is betrayal. I used to think Verizon was a place you could build a career. Now it feels like a place where you just wait your turn to be streamlined. Maybe the saddest part is how normal that’s starting to feel.

Amazon layoffs have an extra level of dread

Usually, people are thinking about whether they'll survive within their team. These latest layoffs are about whether the entire team will survive or not. I've never been through anything like this in my life, and I've been working for nearly three decades. It's just on a whole new level.

How I realized this company is BS'ing everyone

Q3 results "Revenue of $1.96 billion , up 28.3 percent, or 27.0 percent in constant currency"...."Operating cash flow of $159 million, up $43 million year-over-year.
Free cash flow(1) of $131 million, up $24 million year-over-year."

These are all up, yet everything else is down. "Headwinds, inflation, uncertain government blah blah" stock is tanking, entire company is on yard sale duty, your coworkers are disappearing.

Why do these numbers not add up?

Skimming off the top? SLT stowing extra cash away? What is happening?

Shame around layoffs makes no sense

I keep hearing folks whisper about layoffs like it’s something to hide, and I don’t get it. Most of us end up caught in one at some point and it’s got nothing to do with our worth. I’ve been through it myself and the silence only makes everything heavier. We shouldn’t act like losing a job is some kind of personal flaw.

Greenville hospital to lay off 90 employees in restructuring

Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama has announced that it will lay off 90 employees and end inpatient care as it restructures its operations.

The hospital says it will file an application with the State Health Planning and Development Agency to convert itself into a rural emergency hospital.

VZ is a (tele)Communications company?!

So hour by hour every publication is using the '15 to 20k layoffs' headlines to get to whatever sl--t they have, and all of the quotes and bullets are the same for all of the articles. And VZ officially has no comment. And this site and Reddit and everywhere else threads their hearts out with rumor/speculation/furvor. And VZ, the communications company with the new 'Tell it like it is' CEO, and a credo of integrity and respect, just allows rumor, speculation, and uncertainty take a deep soak while November 20 gets closer on the calendar. This isn't some scramble with no direction; Big Brother is controlling the communication even if it LOOKS chaotic. Chaos is a strategy.
