Salary and benefits are likely the biggest drivers of these cuts, people talk tech and AI but I am not sure if these are primary drivers... Anyway we (and others) may use opaque AI tools to hit cost-cutting targets, which can overlook performance, tenure, and so needed knowledge. High earners (even strong managers) can be cut simply because they just cost more.

Not sure how much we can change here but we can be ready. Polish your resume and stay alert. Leadership answers to shareholders not us, and layoffs are often the fastest way to cut costs when stock performance drops...

I don’t think there’ll be massive layoffs. Big ones are in the news like Meta dumping 8000. This is not a big RIF. My dept is barely hanging on with work we’re so slammed, so there’s no way there’s cuts. Not at the level going on here with speculation.

I'm actually looking forward to the first decent weekend in forever, and to never touching healthcare again. Got an interview next week for something completely different at a small company. Wish me luck. And do yourselves a favor, find something else.

The career progression is like this: You work to improve yourself over 25 years in semiconductors. You will become an expert who can resolve all special taks. save money, improve yield and make projects successfull. Everybody is happy, but.....the salary increases over years......Finally they will lay you off because your salary is too high, higher than graduate´s salary. Managment does not understand that what moves the company forward is the technical experties and speed. It is not important anymore, what only matters are cheap incompetent graduates who are asap hired mainly from none technical fields because they are cheaper than graduates from technicial fields. All slows down, projects slow downs or crash, problems remain unresloved, yield is terrible, customers lots..... Well seniors are fired and youner ones cannot cope with it.... Solution? They repeat the same mistakes over and over.....Perhaps the company shall be renamed to "Inferno Hindmalay Semiconductors Technologies GmbH".
