Does anyone know if Staples locations (not retail) will be open the day after Thanksgiving. We have not heard and they usually wait till 2-3 weeks before they tell us.

Jassy's not to blame
Jassy tried RTO as incentive to leave. Employees were adamant they'd leave in droves. Those who said they'd leave didn't follow through and betrayed everyone else. There was no meaningful uptick in attrition after RTO. What other options does Jassy have to reduce the bloat?
Chevron Fellows
I heard a lot of fellows retired this year. Any tips on shortcuts to fellowhood? I heard it is a pretty sweet setup, sort of like tenured faculty - free to do you own thing. I'd like to be a fellow before I'm 40 so I can sort of get off the treadmill.
RTO recommendations
Post here for tips and recommendations to those venturing into the office. It’s a bit of a free for all in my opinion, not like going into the office pre covid!
One more round before year's end
I’d bet my paycheck on it.
Does anyone think the culture is nice?
I don't want to dive into revenues or actual layoff numbers here, but curious are you guys actually upset being here? The culture still feels great on my team, I'm happy and my manager keeps me challenged and is focused on growing my role here. Does anyone here not feel the same?
Still not able to relax
I thought I'd feel great this weekend, make up for lost sleep. I was very much wrong. I still feel like cr-p, I still can't relax, and I still have trouble sleeping. I think this whole thing has been hanging over our heads for so long that it'll take us a while to go back to normal.
Work culture change - anyone noticed?
Back in those days…
It was rare to get called over weekends..
We all had a fixed lunch time, time to start day and end day..
We rarely carried work home…
Work never felt stressful..
Whereas now..
Day starts very early, ends way late.. even sometimes have to work on weekends.
With offshore have to accommodate their time, their holidays and the then manage work.. stressful..
Have to communicate with offshore over crying children, noise of television, or honking noise.
With mobile and laptop we carry work with us all the time.
I feel this is due to the cultural differences between the massive foreigners in the workforce who do not follow the same holidays and are willing to work anywhere anytime and however much.
Nothing against foreigners and I am a liberal but still, there are several red flags here with corporate greed and SHE making 25 millions every year. Work life has changed drastically, my work life is almost over but I fear for what kind of America do my kids get to live in.
Money not worth the stress and disruption
For those of you that are holding out to be displaced. You got to look at what the cost to yourself and your family is of staying there. The money even at the end of your long career is not going to be worth the time that you lose away from your loved ones. The leadership doesn't care if you were single parents they don't care if you have children they don't care if you have a loved one you're caring for they don't care if you have parents that you are monitoring. This is all stuff that can be done with you working at home and every now and then just checking on your kids your spouse your parents. But management has decided that is not important prioritize your life based on the most important things which is not your career.
It’s Fine
America feels like it’s falling apart. Prices keep climbing, people are barely getting by, and the pressure from every direction is unbearable. Schwab treats workers like disposable parts, piling on more stress while paying wages that can’t even cover the basics for most frontline employees . Yet somehow, everyone keeps showing up, pretending it’s normal, pretending nothing has changed. It’s madness, and everyone feels it, even if no one wants to say it out loud.
Move on....its not worth it
After 28 years, Dec 31 2024 was it for me. Cannot tell you how relieved I do not have to deal with the ups and downs of VZ. The constant every year layoffs, and BS of the senior managers, directors who protect their buddies, and their "click", ridiculous high school games. Learn what you can on their dime, and move on. You may make less money, but in the end you'll be much happier. In the Bell Atlantic days, things were pretty good, but when the suits came in they f'ed it all up. Who remembers when VZ Wireless moved into BR and we had separate floors, badges, what a sh-t show. Fridays VZ W would wear jeans, and the VZ suits would look at you like an alien. Just because you wear a suit does not mean your smarter, or better. Get off the hamster wheel, find something gives you something....in the end.
VZ is NOT the best anymore, face it
Quitting in a call center role
If someone works as a call center rep, and plans to leave. Is there any legal repercussion for quitting in the middle of a team meeting with immediate notice? This person would never make the mistake of working for another securities firm again.
The quitting would involve letters written in crayon for professionalism for the entire team, a short speech that encourages others to leave before they waste any more of their lives underpaid by the firm working for yahoo manager that "fight the patriarchy", emails timed for the meeting to be sent to the manager, managers manager, and HR (to ensure the manager cannot lie about the details of leaving), and an immediate turning in of their equipment.
Is there any way for the firm to fine a customer service specialist for this? Also has anyone heard of the firm closing personal accounts of reps in retaliation for leaving the firm?
Looking for feedback from any other brave souls who have left the pit of mediocre Johnsonville, or anyone who has seen others leave suddenly. Much appreciated. Losing the remainder of a paycheck would not bother this person, markets pay well enough to offset that. The bonus is also not big enough to matter. Giving 2 weeks notice is far more courtesy than this black hole deserves.
This person likes the idea of emailing a resignation to the entire firm. But it's too much work to manually make those email lists so...nevermind that.
34 years ago tonight.
Hopefully to lighten the mood for some this evening while they enjoy an IPA or wine (or even scotch, Peter since we know you come back here often).
The record Halloween blizzard hit Minnesota inundating Twin Cities and Duluth both over 2 feet of snow.
Desi's 1st day of work as CEO was Friday Nov 1st. Somehow he showed up but people at 3M Center were given Friday off. Not sure about Cottage grove. I don't even remember how people were told but THAT 3M is a faded image of what is today. Sounds like SOLV is being ruined by Hanson.
Any fun times feel free to share as I head in after Halloween on the porch and get the 1st IPA of the night poured. Cheers!
Attendance
So what happens if you only come once or twice a week instead of 3?
New here… was planning on coming today but something came up, can I just come 4 times next week or will my manager get an email about not going in 3 times this week?
What's your dream job?
If you could say bye bye to Verizon, where would you go? What would you do?
Work from home will save time and be more productive!
Associates being able to collaborate across time zones and optimize their productivity with flexible hours is especially relevant for global organizations.
Work-from-home can indeed reduce commute time, improve work-life balance, and potentially increase efficiency—provided the right communication and collaboration tools are in place.
Connect Week Policy?
Most of my connect weeks, I rarely stay the whole day... I usually do half days and then leave when the office clears out. I work 12pm-11pm est and think it's ludicrous to be sitting on a floor with one other guy at 9pm lol.
I was just told by a friend at my office that his manager told his team you're not required to be in office if you work this shift, because half of the shift is when the office is technically closed. He said it's an actual policy but it's hush hush. Has anyone heard of anything like this? He has rarely gone into the office and has never heard anything of it. I have also never heard anything for usually leaving around 6-7pm est... knock on wood.
My manager is also very lax about the office requirement and just says to do what you can lol.
Q for all that left Paramount: is your mental health and overall health better now?
How long was the recovery time? Tips? What worked well?
How has Cisco damaged your health
I lost all my gains from working out and became fat working day and night for this company. Now I don’t even complete my tasks and management is micro managing me/constantly asking me to present things about AI to the team. I don’t hang out with friends as much and have very little time to date/do activities.
I’m only 2 years out of college and know getting fired/PIP will likely force me out of tech forever and into low-skill no degree required work but that is concerning me less every day.
when are we safe
how long do we have to wait? meeting invites shouldn’t come after 8 right?
Target Spouse
From a spouse of a Target employee. I've been following this site for the last 5 days and this whole process is an absolute sh-t show. I'm sorry to every employee that works there and has had to play this game.
This too shall pass.
I can see the downtown office from my window.
I stared at it all night.
I saw the lights go out.
I saw the lights come back on.
I don't know what today has in store for us.
But if I've learnt anything from life,
This too shall pass.
I genuinely can't sleep
I genuinely can't sleep. I'm trying so hard. But I just can't. It's 2:20 am.
I don't even know what to check my email. I don't know what to do anymore. I lost. I feel dead inside.
I know this is just a job. But it's also livelihood.
Quiet quit
That’s what I plan to do from now on. I’ll give back exactly what I’m given in return. They’ve shown us how little they think of us, so why should I bother giving it my all anymore? My best effort will be reserved for my next company, hopefully one that treats its employees better.
RTO is Ending everywhere but here
RTO is coming to an end. Productivity is down, morale is worse than ever, and people are leaving in waves for companies that offer flexibility. The younger workforce doesn’t want to live in traffic five days a week, and the veterans are burned out.
Every major study shows hybrid work drives better results, retention, and satisfaction. Forcing everyone back has done the opposite. Billions are being wasted on office space instead of innovation, debt reduction, or employee development.
RTO didn’t build culture or collaboration. It built resentment and distrust. The future of work is flexible, and every company that matters knows it. It’s time AT&T caught up.
Robin tightens the leash for 2026
Work from anywhere reduced from 80 hours to 64 hours for next year. No more additional days purchased vacations. If i don't laugh, I'll cry..
someone plz tell me i read that email wrong
I just want this to be over already
I want to be able to sleep through the night again. I haven’t had a proper night of sleep in what feels like months.
Core values-fake?
Especially the one about teamember health and happiness.
Do customers really believe anything that wfm says or does?
I don't. It's just a paycheck to me.
Bonus and last working day
Without going into the discussion of how the bonus su-ks at the bank, can some knowledgeable folks tell me until what date I should be working to be eligible for the bonus — 12/31/2025 or the actual payout date in 2026?
My Friday Schedule
I pull into the parking lot and finish my cup of coffee and the news.
I grab two very strong THC gummies and eat them.
I veg out at work all day. I log in to meeting after meeting where leadership and contractors or offshore employees repeat themselves, repeat their questions, and once again ask me to repeat my detailed instructions to the, I smile like i’m stoned but nobody knows. I am in a low iq twilight zone. After my meetings I get started on real work and am constantly interrupted by more low iq employees or new ones that had no business being hired. I enjoy two more THC gummies and smile my way to 4 and skate out the door. I enjoy RTO, i really do.
Town Hall Question
Previously our department was allowed to attend Town Halls or watch recording at a later date, we were not required to work while attending or watching. It appears now we are to continue working while we attend or watch.
Interested what other departments do, are you allowed to watch or attend while not working or is the expectation to work while attending?
Another whinny post
Perhaps, I'm emotionally immature or just not used to toxic work culture.
Fido manager seem to dump last min work items on you and react in a way they own you.
And worse part, they let someone who fricking can't even understand anything remotely technical to present your hard work.
In what way is this healthy??? They make you do all the dirty work while someone less deserving steals all the credit with no appreciation for your slogging.
Remember how every year we were always…
Ranked in the top 5 of employers in all the major magazines? That sh-t was all over circuit…posters…guess they aren’t publishing those numbers any more. Andy is rolling in his grave. Took a little time, but I found something in two months, better pay, normal work hours. No more 9pm task forces 7 days a week. 6am factory passdown, that you then go have to repeat in 4 other meetings before noon. Go to work, do my job, and go home. At Intel work-life balance just means If Intel isn’t your entire life, you don’t get to work there.
So fu--ing sad.
Does anyone feel like working?
I suspect most of us at OPO are looking for other jobs. How do you continue working while job hunting?
I need a new job
Even my free time isn’t safe from stress anymore. It was never ideal, but when did things become THIS bad?
I used to take lots of early morning meetings at home with Indian teams and evening meetings with west coast
Considering cancel this meetings for my office day. It’s hard to be in office by 7am and stay until 8pm to take those calls.
I can only stay in office for 7 hours due to my kids’ school schedule
Work at night is very common for our team.
Will I get a PIP? Or let go?
My family needs the paycheck.
There’s one thing I know for sure
Hard work won’t save any of us from being laid off. So take it easy, at least until this round is over. Or better yet, always. It’s not like being reliable and dedicated has ever really paid off anyway.
