Research: Job Cuts Often Fail; Other Business Methods

Many companies implement layoffs during economic uncertainty. Evidence suggests layoffs frequently fail to achieve lasting financial benefits. They can also significantly harm employee morale, innovation, and customer loyalty. Many leaders now consider other options instead of job cuts. Companies like Southwest and AT&T successfully used reskilling, furloughs, or reduced hours.

MassHire Lowell Secures Jobs

MassHire Lowell Career Center is not planning employee layoffs for its fiscal 2027 budget. Its positions are funded by state and grants, not the city budget. This contrasts with the city of Lowell, which has proposed significant employee layoffs. MassHire absorbed four full-time ARPA-funded positions into its operating budget. The center manages its budget through attrition, not filling vacancies, and leveraging grant funding.

Nike will move out of Oregon within 5 years

When PK passes, this business will move out of Oregon, every single study has shown so. Keep their "AWESOME" campus for necessary departments that need high visibility to stay cool. Ditch all the WA County Warehouses they branded, relocate options for employees. No Fortune 500 business without the anchor of PK will stay. There is a reason they've built good relationships for expansion in business-friendly states....any business owner understands this. Nike owes Oregon nothing at this point.

wellness center is so offensive

all of the “It’s okay to not be okay, you’ve got a team who cares” emails…Pick a lane, either Own being a sweatshop or actually treat associates with respect and kindness.
At this point, it would not surprise me if they are creating a list of people who reach out to wellness for layoffs.

Layoffs or something else is brewing

The Covid hired managers (not talking about race, just those who can’t keep up and were obnoxious while they had the Covid protections) have been so stressed in the office.

It’s been too long for them to still be stressed from the RTO announcement. Anyone know what management has going on?

FIS: Cloud Academy Skill Builder .. why?

FIS is making fool of US based employees by providing Cloud Academy or Skill Builder etc.

The management has made clear that all the hiring will be done in India/ Philippines.

US based employees can spend time in learning, but they will never get chance to apply the gained knowledge.

FIS is providing this benefit, in case employees start class action that they were not provided growth opportunities. FIS will provide SkillBuilder / cloud Academy as cover to say that opportunities were provided

More Layoffs

Writing was on the wall.
Was waiting for the failures to stack as I remember being on the VAR side and not even being able to communicate with anyone at Atlassian unless I provided them with what seemed like a Wikipedia full of details to just receive a call back (I'm not d-mb...they want all the info to take lead and minimize leverage for the VAR contact)
Well...in a fast moving environment like tech/software/security...there are alternatives/competitors who make it easier to partner and deal with.
I could only imagine what support is like for customers once they are trapped.
The 800 # and those 3 layers deep...horrendous (I got better outcomes calling fast food places with questions).

All going to plan

DXC was designed from the start to be a financial instrument used to extract value. It explains all the shoddy treatment of staff and the cycling of poor mgmt. They appear to not have a clue because they don't, they'll spin you a line to keep you working, but the Leaders are working towards their bonuses and golden parachutes. They have all done it as each new cohort of leadership has come along. This is a long term plan to extract maximum value and then sell it on to another financial instrument such as Apollo, where the process will begin again. I'm sorry if you work at DXC, but don't expect anything from them and you won't be disappointed.

Affected folks - those laid off since April 2025 - Have you found new jobs?

Has anyone forced out or currently training their replacements have any luck finding a new job? Can you share any tips? Did that "job search assistance" they offer help at all? I read that you get taxed in your severance for that "benefit". If it is useless can we opt out so as not to pay taxes on that?

Please keep this on topic and don't have this thread devolve into "the usual". This is for job hunting information only.

Massive layoffs confirmed

ETIPS, legacy network infra/engineering, Cloud migration BS architects, bs data architects, Onprem legacy engineering and architecture, contact center contractors and middle management FTEs and legacy engineering teams, teams in legacy applications being off boarded with next few years are being trimmed as well. I got this info directly from an executive level resource who has no idea I lurk around here helping people. Shoot any question you have and I can find out more

How the he-l does it actually go down???

Can someone explain how these layoffs actually get determined? I feel like it’s just purely cost, but based on how pointless and anti productive it has ended up being I’m not sure if they actually give it any thought. Manager has been giving us the standard BS. (Saying a lot without actually saying anything) lol.

NIKE'S NEAR TERM FUTURE WILL BE DETERMINED WITHIN 3 TO 9 MONTHS

if we are in same circle going on and on with demoralizing layoffs, same stupid upper managements who has no clue or leadership quality, no new design of revolutionary shoes and direction then Nike's clock is ticking as we speak.

EH and new admin has here past 18 months. And 3 to 6 months will put his admin past 2 years. If they cannot come out new strategy, design and campaign with Nike's resource then we can say that EH is not right person. Or bluntly put, a failed turnaround CEO.

IF EH admin. cannot come out with new direction any time soon then Nike will be in deep sh-t and time to look for someone new.

Software engineering layoffs soon?

One IT department just announced last week it will be moving to AI SDLC. This means developers will basically just be 'reviewing' AI agentic code instead of writing.

What do you all think about this? Will Vanguard be doing layoffs/stealthy layoffs more often over the coming months?

In my opinion, the writing is on the wall and it has been getting more clear across the organization for a handful of years now.
