Year-End Layoffs Rumored for December, with Management in Focus

There are persistent rumors circulating that another round of layoffs is planned for the end of the calendar year, with planning expected to begin in September. According to these reports, managers will be the primary target this time around.

Urgent Note for Managers:

Prepare now. If these rumors prove accurate, you have limited time to assess your options. Update your resume, strengthen your professional network, and explore opportunities elsewhere before September.

Additionally, reviews will be artificially deflated to encourage voluntary attrition. This appears to be a deliberate strategy to make the work environment increasingly difficult, pushing people to leave on their own terms. Be aware that negative review scores in the coming months may not reflect your actual performance.

If you're a manager, this is especially critical. Document your achievements and contributions now, and don't let artificially low reviews undermine your confidence or your market value as you explore your next move.

Centene Offers Workforce Buyouts to Cut Costs

Centene Corporation is offering voluntary buyouts to most employees. This move aims to cut costs after losing members across key plans. The health insurance giant serves over 26 million members nationwide. Layoffs may occur if insufficient employees accept the buyout offers. Workforce reductions could impact customer service and claims processing.

Voluntary Resignation

Now that Uniondale is gone and we're all forced to commute to NYC, who here has been through a voluntary resignation? I'm curious what the process will be. Bc, I'm not voluntarily resigning. You're moving my office. You're forcing me out due to my own personal reasons why I cannot commute to NYC.

NPR Reduces Employee Count After Buyouts

NPR implemented staff reductions following a round of voluntary buyouts. The total workforce reduction amounts to fewer than 30 employees. Most employees accepted buyouts, but 10 journalists were laid off. The content division saw a cut of approximately 4%. These actions address financial pressures from declining revenues.

NPR Restructures Newsroom, Offers Buyouts Amid Budget Gap

NPR is reorganizing its newsroom operations. The network is offering buyouts to approximately 300 employees. Layoffs will occur if insufficient staff accept voluntary departures. NPR faces an $8 million budget gap from reduced station fees and federal funding cuts. Recent large donations are primarily dedicated to technological innovation, not operating costs.

Associated Press Cuts 20 Jobs Amid Restructuring

The Associated Press laid off 20 U.S.-based journalists on Friday. This action is part of a previously announced restructuring plan. The organization is shifting its focus from print to visual journalism and other revenue sources. These layoffs followed buyout offers made to over 120 journalists last month. Approximately 40 staffers accepted the voluntary buyouts.

Chief Claims Officer just left

So...Serafin's departure email just hit. Was in there for less than a year, and just moved to San Antonio. Clyde left a dingle berry of a mess from Op Model AND move to Guidewire. If you objected to the simultaneous switch, you were labeled as "not a team player". But when you watch senior officers leaving on their own, it is acceptable to not be a kool aid drinker. Here we go again with switching gears/strategy as new 'direction' is given. A years worth of work thrown away. Missed family events were for nothing.

The voluntary exodus

I've watched seven talented people quit in the last nine months. Another three are currently interviewing elsewhere. The company is bleeding experience every week. And yet they're still talking about another round of layoffs. At this rate, there won't be anyone left to fire.

Microsoft Offers Voluntary Retirement to US Employees

Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to some U.S. employees. This marks the company's first such retirement program. Approximately 7% of the U.S. workforce is eligible. Eligibility requires a combined age and years of service totaling 70 or more. Microsoft is also adjusting its annual employee rewards system.

Microsoft Offers Voluntary Retirement

Just going to leave this right here….

“Our hope is that this program gives those eligible the choice to take that next step on their own terms, with generous company support”

What a novel idea… accomplishing business objectives without completely sh-tting on your own employees.

You know it’s bad when you wish our executives were more like Microsoft.

I walked away last October

I thought I'd feel better right away but I was so wrong. It took months. Months of not being there to undo what that toxic place did to me. They take everything. Your energy, your optimism, your sense of self. Getting it back takes time. I'm now so happy to be away, I can't even describe it. If you can, leave. You'll feel like a new person.

I wish they gave us a chance to volunteer

It would have saved quite a few jobs, I believe, for those who wanted to stay. I know for a fact I'm far from the only one who'd be happy to take severance and run. It's a win/win, so I really can't understand why it's never an option. I know plenty of other companies that offer VOB.

“Workforce Reduction - Self Nomination Program”

this has to be some reality show at this point, where are the cameras? All you can do is laugh. Who in their right mind will voluntarily raise their hand to be terminated… only to find out volunteering yourself does not gurantee termination. They just did layoffs not even 6 months ago and now this. I would rather them come out and say they are going bankrupt because this is just comical.

Individuals exiting Alcon, voluntary or involuntary?

Can anyone comment on what, if any, is Alcon's "package" for employees who they would like to, or decide to, get rid of? Not people impacted by a structured RIF or layoff like we just had. Just those "one off" exits that happen all year long.

That could be PIP'd and fired, or outright fired for performance (not cause). Or "encouraged" to leave: can the employee "negotiate" an exit?

Should I use up my vacation days before leaving Ford?

For those who left Ford voluntarily, how was the vacation days processed when you leave? If you have earned vacation days that were not used, did you get paid for those days in your last paycheck? If I use up all my vacation days will those days be deducted from my last paycheck? Did you have a meeting with HR such as exit interview right before you leave?

Mohawk College Cuts 72 Positions Amid Restructuring

Mohawk College eliminated 72 positions in recent months. This included 62 full-time roles and 10 vacant positions. The cuts were part of a restructuring process. Fifty-seven employees also took voluntary exit packages. Overall, about 580 positions have been cut since late 2024.

WARNING: Cognizant Bench Policy

Cognizant generally allows a 35-day bench period for employees to secure a project, often followed by a 6-10 day grace period or extension notices. Once bench time exceeds 45 days, employees enter a "risk zone" and may be asked to initiate voluntary resignation or face involuntary termination.
