I am considering the switch from engineering to retail banking. I used chat gpt to get my transferable skills and would like to know other tips before my personal baker interview tomorrow.

1. Write LinkedIn recommendations on the profiles of those impacted. This helps in their job search.
2. Update your own LinkedIn profile.
3. Offer to share your network, make connections for others.
4. If impacted, take full advantage of any job search help, career coaching, or upskilling opportunities.
5. Reach out to anyone you feel may be struggling - get together for a walk or just chat over zoom.
6. If you are struggling, reach out to literally anyone and get some support.
7. Go outside. Fresh air, sun, exercise can all help. Take a shower, get dressed.
8. If you’re not impacted, take today and feel all your feelings. It’s okay to be mad, scared, etc. Process it and move on.

Even if nothing comes of it, spending my evening looking and applying for a new job made me feel like I was taking some control of the situation.

Any word on the Fallen Timbers JCP being on the store closing list? My mother works there and is a rumor going around that they will be closing soon. Just wanted to see if she should start looking for work. She really does not want to transfer to the Franklin Park store

Even getting through next week won’t calm me down. We all know there are more cuts coming. And, swear to God, months of job hunting have only made me more depressed. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone. Whatever happens to each of us, here’s hoping something better waits for us on the other side of this sh-tshow.

Out of work for over 8 months, and it’s hard out there.

I had a number of interviews where I lost out to an internal candidate…

when I really thought I was going to be hired. I came back, managed to secure a substantial pay increase in the process.

I took the job without hesitation, after being out in a very tough job market. > 50, > 20 years in…. I have a radically different view now of this place.

I’m going to just try to hang on until retirement, I will move afterwards 2 years into a different position, no more loyalty to the area I work in.

It’s a bad feeling, and it definitely shakes you up. Yet I mostly just feel relieved. I didn’t like the job, and I certainly didn’t like the company or its ways. I’d already started looking into other options a while ago, hoping something better might come along. Now there’s an opportunity on the table. Nothing certain yet, but it looks promising. It may or may not work out, so wish me luck. Maybe this layoff will actually turn into something good.

After watching our numbers rolling in for Q3, the “WTF” exit survey, impending lay offs, and somber mood in my region, I can’t continue to sit here and smile like an id--t. Folks, we’re sitting in a rotten carcass being picked stripped off any value left before being thrown into the incinerator. Hertz is done. Don’t wait to get your notice. Time to get off our chairs and get employment where the business is actually bringing customers and profits.

If you apply for anything, you are not given any priority whatsoever. This is just another lie that was peddled by our dear ELT.

All the jobs I applied to have the status "Job Application Closed" all of a sudden and no new jobs appear to be posted in Atlanta...

I suspect most of us at OPO are looking for other jobs. How do you continue working while job hunting?

Just curious where do people go. Asking for a friend who is planning ahead.

If you need a better job or are waiting to keep this one my advice as a manager is take advantage of all these perks they go on about giving to employees. Take all the d-mb linked in courses and have them on your profile, have the company help pay for certifications or college or CE courses and bulk up your resume and work your a-s off, by 2027 there’s going to be a major shift and US workers will be a skeleton crew unless the laws change: Employee relations are staring to hire overseas workers who can’t u destined English and HR is non existent. They will keep piling on more ludicrous procedures for QA across all departments and doc you over the most insignificant thing so when they do lay you off it’s because you’re performance was bad and you failed to maintain quality and productivity. Start looking for other jobs now. Re write your resume and good luck.

It’s honestly disheartening. You’ll see job postings with over 1,700 applicants, sometimes just two days after going live.

So many ghost jobs. So many ghosting recruiters.

And when you do get an interview, the bias and racial discrimination bingo card fills up fast.

Put in my two weeks notice today. Got a substantially better offer at a company that is not desperately trying to stay afloat.

For others who are still there, don't give up. It tools me months before I even got my first screening interview. Probably applied to 50+ openings, mostly ghosted or outright rejected. My advice is to stick with it, consider companies outside of semiconductor manufacturing, and if you're a U.S. citizen try finding companies that don't prioritize H1Bs.

Its true! I chatted with my counselor today, and it was great! I told her I'm off the bottle (barely drink at all anymore) and in fact I'm loving the job search! It's almost like Christmas, the thought of doing work I actually enjoy - in a new company with none of the BS Agile/Scrum/In-Office...(you fill in the blanks)

I was given a package 9/30/25. I've been going through the 5 stages. Yet, my counselor has told me I'm doing great! I personally am thinking - I dreaded the Tuesday after payday meetings ..... is this The One? Not anymore! Nope. And given my longevity at WF, I don't have to worry about getting re-employed right away.

You know the Mickey D's slogan...."I'm lovin it!". Well I don't even eat there, but now I'm living the slogan....there really IS life after WF! Even my wife has noticed the difference, and is giving me a lot more "attention"! Dang.....shoulda left years ago......

I see many peers moving to CA for other jobs , regardless what it is , the state have more jobs than here..

I was laid off in August under John Blanchard's Org. Does T-Mobile consider those laid off as priority compared to someone that's external and fresh?

Recently I got another one of those “you’re great, just not what we need right now” emails. It's like they keep telling me “we like you, just not enough.” Not good for my self-esteem, I have to say. Not at all. Anyone else get one of these soul-crushing polite rejections?

Those of us impacted by the FIS sale, please be aware that FIS is scheduled for a major reduction in force on November 19th. Word is this will include many of us that were hoping for a stable place to land.
The wonderful company we work for is also about to make another cut. Some managers met yesterday, other meetings will be held this week. It doesnt look good. So glad I started applying to other places. I am done with this bs.

680 job applications later and only 15 interviews in 6 months ( yes the job market is horrible) I finally was offered a job. I strongly recommend if you are still there to be looking as it can take longer than 6 months right now.

Oh and it's 40k more than I was getting at Cargill who said how competitive they were.

Hey Y’all. Recently laid off employee here. I would recommend hopping on LinkedIn and connecting with as many people as you can. I’m in a job program and they weren’t happy with my 89 connections, they wanted me to have more. Even if all you Target peeps don’t know each other, connect anyway, we need all the help we can get.

I was let go recently and I am planning to start my new company. Its very difficult to find job in today's market.

If you are 40+, my better suggestion for you is to start your own venture.

I've had friends in other companies who gave their notice, only to be terminated on the spot. The professional thing is to give notice, but I am afraid that if I do, I will be let go on the spot.

Safety is not possible when you are working for other people. Work hard, make sure your team knows it, live below your means, and keep your resume and network ready. No matter how hard anyone works, sometimes they just get cut or passed over for promotion. Control what you can control and accept what you cannot.

Exactly this. People who think joining another company will save them from layoffs are being naive. Everyone’s laying people off. Some more, some less, but it’s happening everywhere. Job security is a thing of the past. Just stay prepared, and you’ll be fine no matter where you work.

I just hope no one still here is taking this place seriously anymore and that everyone’s looking hard for other options.

I am not the type to switch companies, but I am finding it difficult to remain with all the layoffs happening and worrying if I will be next on the chopping block.

I’ve been planning my exit for a while now. Took a few certs, kept my resume fresh, and stopped overdoing it. I’m just here until something better opens up. Severance would just be a bonus.

I can understand why people want this to be over with as soon as possible. However, I have to admit I appreciate being given some time to prepare for the worst. While it's not much, this period has allowed me to get into a better mental position, update my resume, and reach out to old contacts...small things like that. And there's another week to take advantage of. I'd take that over having the rug pulled out from under me at any time.

Do you have a job you can offer me??? Trust me, a lot of us are trying to get out just so we don’t end up jobless. The job market is absolute trash right now. I’ve been actively looking for a new job for a year with zero luck. In my 15 years in the corporate world, it’s never been this hard to find something better.

too many ghost jobs. they sit for months.

companies want free publicity, they dont lie about it. some post just to meet federal rules.

outsiders won’t get those roles.

the rest are fu--ing sketchy. resume scrapers and offshore shops, just stealing data. they want contacts and h1-b angles. applicants send hundreds of resumes. almost no replies.

it's all now just about ads, not doing matches and u dont stand a chance there.

drifted away.... soooo frustrated. nothing feels seperate from the grift.

I am on an expat assignment overseas and want to leave the company. No recognition or appreciation for my effort so why stay. Trouble is what happens if I quit? Do I have to move myself back to the US?

Where are we supposed to find jobs if we're cut when every single media house is currently laying people off?

Realistically, all of us who work for Xerox know layoffs are always a possibility, but it's still not something that's easy to digest when it actually happens. If it's any consolation, two coworkers left on their own in the last two months, both to new and better jobs, which means that the job market might not be as bad as most of us think. In any case, good luck!

I wanted to create a thread so we can help each other with some advice on finding new roles. I’m in tech, and obviously the job market is worst it’s ever been. I stay up on certifications, education, and all that. Doesn’t seem to help a lot. Even did nano degrees here. Been trying to do LinkedIn and network, been applying to jobs for about 2 years now and only had a handful of interviews, got passed up for internal candidates on the final rounds. Anyone having luck getting interviews coming from ATT and if so, what methods are you using (mainly networking, job boards, etc…). Any particular companies you find folks getting jobs at coming out of here?
