What’s the Vibe? Big Layoff Announcement Coming?

Trying to catch the vibe and see through the fluff here. I see a meeting with potential future board member (JG) on the calendar, an earnings call, an all employee meeting, and then a wider team meeting following that.

Personally, I was going to leave the company in short order, but this feels like re-org and layoff damage control on my calendar.

What’s the temperature in the room where you are? I’m remote and have not been plugged into the roomer mill in years. Any concrete info?

Arvind Krishna. An Immigrant success story

From modest background, Arvind Krishna is the kind of immigrant success story people should actually talk about more. He came to the U.S., built his career through skill and discipline, and rose to become CEO of one of the most important technology companies in the world. No shortcuts, no noise—just execution. At a time when leadership gets questioned constantly, he’s focused on long-term strategy, AI innovation, and keeping IBM steady. That’s what real success looks like: earn it, build it, and lead with substance.

Avaya Patent Sell-Offs

How do you earn some quick cash when you've already shrunk the workforce? Sell off your Intellectual Property! You have to wonder why they weren't sold to Extreme Networks back in 2017 when Avaya sold off its failing <Ahem... non-core 😂) networking business.

Lost Identity

This is a company that is slowly losing its identity. Rent-A-Center is now forcing their employees into becoming a Amazon drop off hub. This a desperation move to attempt new blood into Rent-A-Center. This means additional responsibilities for employees without any additional pay. So on top of begging clients to buy something, chasing after past due clients that just hide behind their doors, employees are expected to ship out a unrelated companies packages. Is it even Rent-A-Center anymore or just a company on life support?

Nike is HMS Titanic....

it is too big. Too bloated. Too bureaucratic.

I don't think EH can turn this big ship without grounding it.
Not even his Grandma can turn Nike around.

MP just rode the ride and let it get big.
JD drove this 18 wheeler to the ditch.
EH cannot pull it out the ditch nor has ability to pull it out.

Since you cannot turn around HMS Titanic in this harbor, the only solution is to cut the company into different pieces and run it separately and make it more aggressive.

Intel influence undermining IDG

Intel’s influence has quietly spread through Lenovo, specifically within IDG. There has been a clear shift in how things operate, and it is becoming harder to ignore. Leadership influence there now appears closely tied to Intel, and it shows in the decisions being made.
There is a strong sense of internal favoritism around that group. The same people continue to support each other, even when results are poor. At some point, it no longer looks like cohesion and starts to look like a lack of accountability.
The impact is obvious. Execution feels slower, more layered, and less effective. Energy is lower, confidence is slipping, and it is being noticed. It no longer feels like the same organization in that part of the business.
