Optum Selloff Strategy

I want to preface everything with the fact that I have no idea if they’re actually planning to absorb minimal tech resources into UHG and then sell Optum. This is just a rumor that I read previously on this site.

I have two questions:

Does anyone know if this rumor has any merit?

If the rumor is true, how do you think they’ll draw the line in the sand? What teams will stay and what teams will be sold off? Will it be split by leader, onshore/offshore, etc?

I genuinely don’t know what outcome would be best. I’m just kind of curious if I can predict where my job will land.

Private Equity

I keep seeing posts about PE as a savior.

Question, have any of you worked in PE? It ain't fun.

Reminds me of the line in good fellas ..

Business bad? Fu-k you, pay me. Oh, you had a fire? Fu-k you, pay me. Place got hit by lightning, huh? Fu-k you, pay me.

Say good bye to good benefits, PSP, stock options (oh yeah, yours will be worth nothing), probably a reset on PTO...

And if it does turn around, you won't see a penny

BitGo Reduces Workforce, Prioritizes AI Infrastructure

BitGo announced a 15% staff reduction. The company cited changes in the evolving ecosystem. BitGo will now concentrate on security, trading, stablecoins, settlement, and AI-powered infrastructure. This reduction follows widening net losses despite strong revenue growth. BitGo's stock fell 4.76% on the New York Stock Exchange.

Passing out opinions like lollipops

Since when does a company have almost every single person in the building make a decision on even the littlest things? The higher ups, like ML and that whole lot, have better things to worry about than half of the stuff they have to “approve” before anyone can actually move forward with their jobs.

Have a little faith in the people you employ, and maybe focus more on idk maybe a cohesive brand????? We’ve lost the plot entirely

Talked to an Ops VP...

He expects a cut, notes that it will be sizable but 'reasonable' (whatever that means). When I pressed with numbers did not want to share anything. I said 20K, he said unlikely, I said 10K he said maybe. Take it for what it's worth. I typically trust him as he's a good person and we have a close relationship (long story) but wanted to share that.

Terrible offer, terrible process, terrible company!

I recently went through an interview process for a role in upstream. Not a normal process and the interviews some of the strangest I’ve ever had. I was asked for pay slips then after some months of radio silence was made an offer. The offer claimed Aramco is a “wealth building opportunity”, yet the package on offer was 30% less than my current comp. Seriously, who moves jobs for a pay cut? I politely refused!

Layoffs are a funny way to treat an ‘Important Part Of Our Portfolio’

Sony is laying off potentially hundreds of developers at Bungie as part of its latest round of cuts following the end of support for Destiny 2, but it will continue investing in Marathon despite the extraction sho-ter’s ongoing struggles to expand its audience despite rave reviews. That was the message from PlayStation Studios chief Hermen Hulst in a new letter about the cuts. The Sony exec called Marathon an “important” part of the company’s gaming portfolio and promised ongoing support, at least for now.

I put in for the VSP

The VSP makes sense for me. I am fortunate and I know it. And I get the fear of everyone. I have heard via a high ranking person within the company that pretty much everyone that asks for it will get it. They might be kept beyond the 9/1 date due to a project or something.
I get what is happening, but the people who don't place the blame 90% on the shoulders of Sarah London and the BOD are misguided. Last week we saw the BOD firming up their grip on power by bringing in another person on their side. This is unfortunate for the employees and probably the stockholders as well.
I wish all my coworkers well, but if you can swing it, take the VSP and move on.

Who's left that's considered a leader?

Being with Canon for so many years, I believe and feel we still have some inspiring leaders, maybe not enough of them, but we have hope with the ones that still hopefully remain in place. I know the site is filled with negativity right now, and I understand, but maybe one post that offers some positive light at the end of the tunnel will help? Who's your favorite leader by initial only and group?

Are people avoiding Oracle these days?

We've been trying to fill a role for months, and we've gotten almost no qualified applicants. It almost feels like qualified people have heard the stories, know what it's like here, and are staying away as a result. We desperately need help, but I don't think we'll get it anytime soon.

Elastic Cuts Staff, Citing AI Automation

Elastic, a data-search company, plans to lay off approximately 281 workers. This decision aims to reduce operational complexity. Executives cite AI automation as a key factor. The company still expects net headcount growth. This growth is projected for the current fiscal year.

UKI Leadership Call, did you attend? Vote up for yes or down for no.

Don’t normally attend these monthly calls but decided to tune in today. Well that was an hour wasted. Mainly insufferable people droning on in corporate speak about absolute BS. Main takeaway was hearing that 400 UK staff are on a PIP? Is this bell curve requirements, something for middle managers to do, a tick box exercise or all 3? Oh and not a word about pay review.
